World Cup

The state of TIAH

June 29th, 2006

in 1613, London’s Globe Theatre burns down. Suspicion immediately falls on William Shakespeare, who had been presenting himself as the author of several plays penned by Francis Bacon until Bacon revealed himself as the author. Shakespeare’s life had taken a sharp downturn since that time, and the entire theatrical community knew that he harbored a deep grudge against Bacon for stealing that prestige from him. After the fire, Francis Bacon pledged to rebuild the theatre, and King James generously provided the funds for one of the most lavish theatres in all of Europe. With Bacon's reputation and the opulence of the New Globe, British theatre became the envy of the western world.

in 1776, South Carolinian Edward Rutledge writes what will become the most influential letter of the brief war for American independence to John Jay of New York. Rutledge urged Jay to find a way to turn his Continental Congress colleagues from independence, hoping that there was still a way to “effectively oppose” the headlong rush toward nationhood that the colonials were in. When Jay took control of the Continental Congress and began negotiating for a rapprochement with the Crown, he sent Rutledge to Great Britain to argue on behalf of increased autonomy for the colonies if they would yield to continued British rule. Rutledge found many in Britain's Parliament eager to accede to American demands in order to free up forces for the disastrous war in Canada, and his own affinity for the British won him enough allies to push his measures through and end the war between the American colonies and Great Britain.

in 1942, the 4th World Cup kicks off in Venezuela. Because Europe was raging in the middle of a war, it was thought that the European teams would want a postponement of the great football tournament, but after Germany announced it would be sending a team, the Allies felt obliged to follow. Held in Brazil, the tournament drew 16 nations, mostly from the western hemisphere; the only European teams that showed up were Germany, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland. Of the four, Germany and Ireland broke out of the first round, then Germany was eliminated by host Venezuela. Ireland made it all the way to the final, where they played the former world champions, Uruguay, to a 1-1 draw before losing 2:3 in penalty kicks. When Hitler received the news that not only had Germany been eliminated, but that a team from Great Britain came in second, he eliminated all funding for German football and said, “The German people will never again play this corrupt English game.” Of course, immediately after the war, West German football surged back from their years in the wilderness and captured the 5th World Cup in 1946 when the tournament was held in neighboring Switzerland, beating Brazil 2-0 in a game that became the newly democratic nation's baptism into the international community.

in 2017, the small craft from the Dyson sphere comes within a kilometer of the Pokor and scans them, then sends a brief message over their communication system. It is completely incomprehensible to the Quarai and humans on board the Pokor, but Captain Mawrao of the Pokor replies with a Quarai message of friendship. Once the small craft receives this message, it turns around and shoots back to the Dyson sphere. “Let's follow,” Captain Mawrao tells his crew. The human crew of the Eagle wonders if they can jettison their ship before the Pokor reaches the huge sphere.

The state of TIAH

Alternate Historian's Note: Well, I'm typing this in the dark, with an extension cord running off to the part of the house that has power plugged into the computer. The modem is still acting up, so I can only hope that I'll be able to upload this before it goes out again. We got hit by a tornado yesterday morning – it ripped off a small part of our roof and threw a couple of trees through a couple of our fences, but no big damage and nobody hurt. It did inconvenience me by killing all the electrical power in one part of our house – the part with the computers in it, naturally. We have all kinds of adjusters and repair people supposed to come out, but there are people with worse damage, so we're kind of low on the list. Hopefully, things will improve and we'll be able to keep up the posts. We'll do our best!

in 1891, troops begin heading west to reinforce General Anthony Franklin in Missouri, where he is planning a large-scale siege of Kansas. He sends messengers to the governors of the surrounding states for militia men to handle the main portion of the siege while he uses federal troops to penetrate into Kansas. “Once we take Topeka, the rest of these rebels should fall like dominoes,” he told the messengers to tell the governors. Major Mark Wainwright, who had been involved in the struggle longer than Franklin, said, “Sir, I fear that you're underestimating these men. They've proven themselves capable of fighting off trained military – more than once, as you know.” Franklin, stung by the memory of his own defeat at the hands of the Kansans, ordered Wainwright, “Be quiet, sir. Your defeatist attitude has no place in this campaign – which will be short and successful. Understood?” Wainwright nodded, saluted, and left to see to the few men who had survived the trip to Kansas with him.

In 2165 matters were unraveling fast in the real world. Michael Version7 Punk and Stanley 3XG Homeboy were no longer able to ignore this state of affairs when the words GAME OVER flashed up on their consoles just after noon Eastern Seaboard Time.

Margaret Thatcher
Margaret Thatch..
In 1972 Prime Minister Margaret Hilda Thatcher spoke to the nation from the BBC. The country had not come to terms with Britain's new position in the world, she wisely said, and the empire, and then the great wars had bankrupted the nation. Those were the facts, but they were here to  change the facts . We ..
.. won the war, but lost the peace, she added by way of explanation. Effective immediately, Britain would be speaking to her partners in the Commonwealth to establish a new economic union based on free trade and the pooling of British technology. The first such meeting would be the following week with President Idi Amin Dada of Uganda; a graduate of Cardiff University, “Dada” was a true friend to Britain.

In 1983 at a press conference on this day, the  Bormann Diaries  were declared by historians Hugh Trevor-Roper, Eberhard Jäckel and Gerhard Weinberg experts to be  authentic . Even though they had not yet been properly examined by scientists, Trevor-Roper endorsed the diaries thus:  'I .. Bormann
Bormann
.. am now satisfied that the documents are authentic; that the history of their wanderings since 1945 is true; and that the standard accounts of Hitler's writing habits, of his personality and, even, perhaps, of some public events, may in consequence have to be revised'

in 1891, General Anthony Franklin receives replies from the governors of Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado and the Oklahoma Territory. All pledge their support to his mission, and say that their states stand ready to preserve the Union. He sends them the plans he has drawn up to lay siege to the Kansans and tells them to be ready by May 1st, when he plans to have troops ready to make a run to Topeka. The first reinforcements from Washington have already reached him and are being drilled by Major Mark Wainwright, who has reluctantly become General Franklin's chief aide.

in 1999, now that the Commonwealth stands behind King Arthur, he issues a call for support of the kingdom to all loyal citizens. “We are about to embark upon the greatest struggle of our history,” King Arthur says in the televised address. “An enemy sits across the Channel from us; an implacable enemy who sees us as nothing but an impediment to their own plans, as tools in their overarching conspiracy to control our world. Today, we declare war against these Illuminati and their henchmen inside the Central European Empire. Today, we declare that we will live as free men and women in this world. Today, we declare that the United Kingdom of Great Britain shall fight to the death those that seek to extinguish the light of liberty from our land. We ask for your aid in this great conflict, and with God's help, we shall emerge victorious.” Hours after the address, Emperor Pierre of the Central European Empire declares war against Great Britain.

In 1983 a time travel team from the far distant future prepare to snatch passengers (“goats”) out of a DC-10 and a 747 just before they collide over Oakland, California. They will leave prefabricated smoking bodies (“wimps”) for the rescue team to find. The goats will be held in hibernation on a spaceship to be sent to the stars. This human re-population project is a desperate and final attempt to save humanity. The mission is headed by Louise Baltimore, Chief of Snatch Team Operations who is as yet unaware of a paradox being created by her mission in 1983. The airline disaster threatened an end to the world as we know it.

Margaret Thatcher
Margaret Thatch..
In 1972 Prime Minister Margaret Hilda Thatcher announced a series of appointments to the new civilian government, all absolutely necessary to execute the go-forward plan for Britain. Messrs Enoch Powell, Keith Joseph and Norman Tebbitt were pleased to accept the great offices of state as the nation prepared for a return ..
.. to parliamentary democracy by 1976.

In 1983, German news magazine Stern published extracts from what purported to be the the  Bormann Diaries . Chernobyl Disaster
Chernobyl Disas..
In 1986 on this day an accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant consisting of an explosion at the plant and subsequent radioactive contamination of the surrounding geographic area. A plume of radioactive fallout drifted over parts of the western Soviet Union, Eastern and Western Europe, Scandinavia, the UK, Ireland ..
.. and eastern North America. Large areas of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia were badly contaminated, resulting in the evacuation and resettlement of over 336,000 people. Following the fall of the Soviet Union, western loans were conditioned about the dismantling of atomic energy which was completed by 1995.

In 1925 on this day Paul von Hindenburg defeated Wilhelm Marx in the second round of the German presidential election to become the first directly elected Reichspräsident, the head of state of the Weimar Republic. He was succeeded by his nominee, the former German fighter ace Manfred von Richthofen, previously known as 'The .. Red Baron
Red Baron
.. Red Baron'. This was considered a master-stroke as the appointment of another illustrious officer from the glorious past held the highest-level centrifugal forces together in the Weimar Republic in the absence of the deposed House of Hohenzollern. Gathering right-wing forces were unable to justify action to fill a vacuum of power that was of course ultimately averted.

Lord Curzon
Lord Curzon
In 1924 Prime Minister of Great Britain Baron George Nathanial Curzon announces the discovery of huge oil resources in the North Sea. Trouble is the good news is just too late to save the humbled Lion. After the French mutinied at Verdun in 1916, the Triple Entente was forced to surrender ..
.. to the Kaiser. Britain is now a bankrupted and defeated nation suffering hyperinflation being tackled by the hopelessly incompetent Chancellor of the Exchequer Winston Churchill. Worse, Britain is a satellite of the Second Reich and thus a shadow of her former glorious and illustrious past. Now in 1924 the Dreadnoughts of the German High Seas fleet operate with impudence out of the former British Naval base at Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands, patrolling the maritime zone above the oil fields. Not only have the Germans been given a fresh impetus to rules the waves, they now have a plentiful supply of fuel to do so. The North Sea is not quite what the Kaiser had in mind back in 1910 when he spoke of the 'place in the sun' he wanted for Germany. But he is not complaining too loudly about how things have turned out for the House of Hohenzollern.

Chiang Kai-Shek
In 1954 with considerable Anglo-American support Chiang Kai-shek is re-instated in Beijing as Chairman of the National Government. One of his first actions is to gratefully extend the lease on Hong Kong Island to his ally Great Britain for a further one hundred years. In reality he needs ..
.. the British to keep up the pressure on deposed Chairman Mao. The 'great helmsman' has fled to the Soviet Union where he is regathering his shattered Communist forces for a fresh assault on the Kuomintang.

After(cont.)
Just as the sun was being cut in two by the horizon, Jake pulled the jeep up to the wall of a small creek and turned off the engine. “OK,” Janice said, studying the map on her laptop. “We just need to hop over that little cliff there, hike about a mile and half, and we're at the ranch. I'm amazed that we could get this close.”
“You can have a talk with his security people after we've got him,” Kevin said.
“We should wait for night, then send somebody in for a look-around,” Eli said. “Recon, like you said, Sarge. Get a good feel of what their layout is before we go in.”
“Right,” Jake said. He studied the creek side for a good way up. “All right, I'm gonna head up and do that. Should be dark by the time I get close enough for a look. Hand me those goggles, Janice.” She took out her night-vision goggles and handed them to him. “Y'all try to keep quiet and stay outta sight. I'll be back after dark.” He then took off up the wall and out of sight.
Eli took out his guns, pulled out the ammunition, and started cleaning them. Janice pulled a small radio out of her pack and plugged in small earphones. She handed one to Kevin. “Share?”
“OK.” He took the bud and stuck it into his ear as she adjusted the channel. After a minute, they got the Emergency Lady, and Janice paused.
“...of emergency, the citizens of Texas are asked to report to the nearest military recruitment center or base and volunteer their assistance in whatever capacity they are able to contribute. If you have information about the terrorists or the invading force...”
“Invading force?” Kevin and Janice looked at each other as they spoke in unison. Eli looked up from his guns at them.
“...der, you are required by law to report to the nearest police station or Guard unit and surrender this information. General Wilson McNeil, commander of the military units currently repulsing the invaders, has requested all able-bodied Texans near the borders of the state to immediately join the Guard with whatever weapons they possess and assist in keeping these foreign forces off of our soil.”
“What does this mean?”
Janice turned to Eli and told him what had been said, then answered Kevin. “I'd lay odds that it means that they want as many Texans in uniform as they can get, and they've pulled together this cockamamie story to get them. That puts another deadline on us.”
“Wonderful.”
Eli was smiling. “Yeah, this is gonna be the big one, here.”
“Sometimes, Eli, you scare me,” Janice said.
He grinned wider. “Just sometimes?”
“That's gonna make it harder to get Bush out,” Janice told Kevin. “There's gonna be more soldiers.”
“Forget Bush, what about Steph and the kids?” Kevin looked very concerned. “Do you think they meant the border with New Mexico, or just the border with Mexico?”
“I'd say both,” Janice said.
“How are they going to get across if there's fighting going on at the border?”
Janice shrugged. “Well, they've got that SUV, so they might be able to find a way over to New Mexico without using a road. Mike's pretty good at finding information that's supposed to be secret - “
“He's the best,” Eli piped in.
“So,” Janice continued, “he should be able to find them a route that'll bypass any fighting. They've got some cash to spread around, thanks to you, and that always help grease your way.” She put a hand on his shoulder and rubbed. “They'll get through.”
“I sure hope so.” He shook himself and looked embarrassed. “For Jake's sake, I mean.”
“Yeah,” she smirked, “for Jake's sake.”

Judgements

In 2008, the following notice was published ~

With due respect to sworn testimony of God-fearing citizens, -
in accordance with the laws of the sons of Adam in this Republic of Gilead,-
the whoremaster, disgraced Commander Eliot Spitzer to be hung from the wall this evening.
Derelict in duty, and found guilty of fornication with the prostitute Kirsten
by magistrates of this good parish of Albany, New York State.
 -

Persuant to Holy Scripture, Leviticus 19:29 refers, -

Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will turn to prostitution and be filled with wickedness. ,

On this day of our Lord, 2008 Anno Domini. Not the potter, but the potter's clay. Amen.
.
In 1935, - Adolf Schicklgruber ordered Germany to rearm herself in violation of the Versailles Treaty. Conscription was reintroduced to form the Wehrmacht however the Austrian Chancellor felt that the pace of reform from Fuehrer und Reichskanzler Kurt von Schleicher was too slow to deal with the Red Threat from Stalin's Russia. He lost patience three years later and in 1938 Austrian troops occupied the Weimar Republic. Annexation known as Anschluss (Union) was declared the following day - My good friends, for the second time in our history, an Austrian Chancellor has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time.
.
In 1976, James Harold Wilson, Baron Wilson of Rievaulx, KG, OBE, FRS, PC, Labour Prime Minister of Great Britain, resigned.

Queen Elizabeth II came to dine at 10 Downing Street to mark his resignation, an honour she has bestowed on only one other Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. Both events concealed a secret civil that was being fought out with the Queen siding decisively against the establishment.
 -
A BBC programme The Plot Against Harold Wilson broadcast in 2006 gives strong suggestions that the country came closer to military government than previously believed. In a series of secret tapes recorded just after his shock 1976 resignation, Harold Wilson explained that for 8 months of his premiership he did not feel in full control and didn't 'feel he knew what was going on, fully, in security'. He alleged that ex-military leaders had built up private armies in anticipation of 'wholesale domestic liquidation' and Lord Louis Mountbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh's uncle and mentor, would be installed as interim Prime Minister. Two plots, in the late 1960s and mid 1970s, were alleged by Wilson. Lord Louis Mountbatten was assassinated by agents who planted a bomb in his boat at Mullaghmore, County Sligo in the Republic of Ireland 27 August 1979 ending the threat of this coup d'etat.
.
In 1935, Adolf Hitler ordered Germany to rearm herself in violation of the Versailles Treaty.Under the Chancellor's plans, German would build a massive military machine, including a new Navy (Kriegsmarine) and an Air Force (Luftwaffe). For the first time in 20 years, Germany's armed forces would be as strong as France's. This escalation prompted an immediate preemptive strike from Anglo-French forces across the Rhine.
.
In 1792, King Gustavus III of Sweden was killed by Count Ankarstom as they attended a ball at the Royal Opera. The Count then seized the throne, plunging Sweden into a bloody, 6-year civil war. Most of Scandinavia was drawn into the conflict, which devastated the northern lands of Europe and reduced their influence in world affairs considerably.
.
In 1861, the Arizona Territory leaves the Union and joins with the Confederate states. This begins an exodus of western territories to the Confederate side, including California. Within the year, the Union is isolated to a handful of northeastern states struggling to hold together in the face of an enemy who surrounds them from all sides but the north.

In 1962, the American plane Constitution disappears while flying over the Pacific Ocean. The 167 people on board are presumed dead until the plane lands the next day in Bombay, India, thousands of miles off-course and unable to account for the time they were missing.
.
In 1962, Operation Northwoods was accepted by the Kennedy Administration. This plan was proposed by U.S. Department of Defense leaders with the aim of generating U.S. public support for military action against the Cuban government of Fidel Castro. The plan suggested various false flag actions, including simulated or real state sponsored acts of terrorism on U.S. and Cuban soil. This included a plan to fill a plane with CIA agents posing as college students flying over Cuba en route to a vacation destination. The plane was to be replaced, midflight, with a drone filled with explosives which was to be flown over Cuban airspace and exploded with the pretense that the plane full of college students had been shot down by the Castro regime. The plans had the written approval of all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and were presented to President Kennedy's Defense Secretary, Robert McNamara for approval.
 - Northwoods
Northwoods
Journalist James Bamford summarized Operation Northwoods in his April 24, 2001 book Body of Secrets: 'Operation Northwoods called for innocent people to be shot on American streets; for boats carrying refugees fleeing Cuba to be sunk on the high seas; for a wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington, D.C., Miami, and elsewhere. People would be framed for bombings they did not commit; planes would be hijacked. Using phony evidence, all of it would be blamed on Castro, thus giving Lemnitzer and his cabal the excuse, as well as the public and international backing, they needed to launch their war. Needless to say, it didn't end well.'
.
Marshall TitoIn 1953, Marshal Josef Tito of Yugoslavia arrived in Britain.

A long-term ally of the West, Tito was facing severe pressures from his surrounding nations including Greece, who had turned to Communism. He shook hands with the Duke and made a short speech in faltering English greeting the people of Britain and expressing hope of mutual co-operation, understanding and peace.

I wish to assure the peoples of Great Britain that they should consider the people of my country as their staunch allies because the people of the new Yugoslavia are striving towards the same ends as the people of Great Britain,' he said. He then inspected the Guard of Honour and was taken in a bullet-proof car escorted by police motorcyclists to Downing Street. Later in the afternoon he laid a wreath at the Cenotaph and saluted Britain's war dead.

Yakov SverdlovIn 1919, in Oryol Russian doctors managed to nurse Chairman of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee (VTsIK) Yakov Mikhaylovich Sverdlov back to health from the Spanish Flu that had been threatening his life. Set once again at the centre of memorable events, Sverdlov is trusted with greater functions by Lenin and appointed General Secretary in 1922 when the Soviet Union came into existence, formalising his role as the First Head of State.
Yakov Sverdlov - Head of State
Head of State
He was born in Nizhny Novgorod to Jewish parents, his father being an engraver. He joined the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1902, and then the Bolshevik faction, supporting Vladimir Lenin. He was involved in the 1905 revolution.

After his arrest in June 1906, for most of the time until 1917 he was either imprisoned or exiled.

After the 1917 February Revolution he returned to Petrograd from exile and was re-elected to the Central Committee. He played an important role in planning the October Revolution. Research in 1990 by the Moscow playwright and historian Edvard Radzinsky uncovered Sverdlov's role in the execution of Tsar Nicholas II and his family. Sverdlov ordered their execution on July 16, 1918.

A close ally of Vladimir Lenin, Sverdlov played an important role in persuading leading Bolsheviks to accept the controversial decisions to close down the Constituent Assembly and the signing of the Brest-Litovsk Treaty. It was claimed that Lenin provided the theories and Sverdlov made sure they worked.

Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people came to the decision to put Damien to death. They bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate, the governor.

When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Damien was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. 'I am damned,' he said, 'for I have betrayed the lower empire.' 'What is that to us?' they replied. 'That's your responsibility.'
 -
So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

The chief priests picked up the coins and said, 'It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.' So they decided to use the money to buy the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners. That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: 'They took the thirty silver coins, the price set on him by the people of Israel, and they used them to buy the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me.' ~ Grand Grimoir, Matthew Chapter 27.
