Nat Turner's Revolt

The state of TIAH

August 21st, 2006

in [time unknown], the officers of the Pokor and the Eagle intercept the Starwalkers carrying the golden jump device off of the human's spaceship. They are able to physically overpower them; the Quarai use a martial art that is very effective in nature, but “causes no damage,” Captain Mawrao said. They then struggled the device back on board the Eagle and roused their crew. The Pokor took off quickly, and was almost instantly pursued by Starwalker ships. Commander Patterson ordered Najib Kasem to activate the jump - “We need to get the hell out of here, Najib!” Kasem, calling on the changes in his mind that close contact with the device had made, quickly inputs coordinates into the device and asks Captain Mawrao, “It's ready to go – are we?” The Quarai captain told the crew to brace themselves, and said to Kasem, “Do it.” While still in the atmosphere of the Starwalker world, Kasem turned on the jump device, and the familiar white light enveloped them.

in 1831, the slave minister Nat Turner freed the slaves on the plantation of his owner Joseph Turner, killing the Turner family in the process. He revealed his plan to them – they would work their way slowly to Jerusalem, Virginia, gathering other slaves on the way, take the armory in Jerusalem, and thus armed, move to the west and establish themselves as a free nation. His plan worked brilliantly, and with hundreds of slaves at his back, Jerusalem was his. However, this success drew the attention of the Virginian government, which felt that they couldn't let this challenge to their authority go unanswered. The state militia was called out, but too late – they reached Turner and his army after they had the weapons from Jerusalem's armory, and in the bloody battle for the town, Turner emerged victorious. Slaves across the south rallied to his side, and, although many were lynched or killed by their former owners in the process, many more swelled Turner's numbers until he had an invincible force in western Virginia. The state asked for federal assistance in November, and this led to the great debate between the free states and the slave states in the US House of Representatives. The Representatives from the free states were often quite hostile to the notion of sending out American troops to quell what they considered a battle for liberty, and the slave state Representatives were horrified that their colleagues were willing to allow this “alien army,” in the words of Virginia's Representative Joseph Augustine, to rampage across the south. The debate became so vicious that the southern Representatives left the House en masse, and talk began circulating among southerners that they would secede from the Union if it refused to protect them. President Andrew Jackson ordered some troops to Virginia, and this proved too great an offense against Congress' powers to make war – they impeached him and removed him from office. The southern states then made good on their threat to secede, and the south was quickly embroiled in war against its huge population of African slaves. President Martin van Buren of the Union held the northern states together as well as he could, but the chaos in the south spilled over into the rest of the US by the turning of the year, and by the time hostilities finally ceased in 1842, the former United States was now three countries – several states of New England had merged with Canada, the surviving mid-Atlantic states still called themselves the US, and a large chunk of the south and central US was held by Turner's New Israel.

The Announcement

Alternate Historian grudgingly taking time out from reading: Who could possibly be expected to do anything other than read Deathly Hallows? Lucky for us, Steve writes ahead – enjoy his entry today, and read yesterday's Harry Potter fan fic below – before you read the real thing!

In 2007, A. BREEG wrote ~ using ancient european grimoires my visitor from Romania had released the demon within Benjamin Breeg. 666 days later has was reincarnated as Eddie.

As I said, it was a strange meeting. Of course Eddie required some form of subterfuge to conceal his identity when he was not letting rip with the British Heavy Metal Band Iron Maiden.
Reincarnation of B BREEGI must say the journal was profoundly shocking.

However, I can't say I'm not pleased to have my diary returned to me - it really takes me back.

In 1969, on this day a funeral for Mary Jo Kopechne was held at St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, attended by Ted Kennedy. She was buried in the parish cemetery on the side of Larksville Mountain. The Senator wore a neck brace, idea an ill-conceived by his cousin Joseph Gargan in order to conceal the teeth marks on his neck. The only reason why Kennedy was warm and breathing himself was that the vampires had been unable to feed on the Senator due to the high level of alcohol and narcotics in his bloodstream.

In 2009, TV networks ran episode thirteen of So What If?. The Burma Road is re-opened and supplies begin to reach the Republic of China just in the nick of time to save Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek from encircling Communist forces led by Mao Tse-Tung. Over the following years, the Beijing leadership ruthlessly crush the rise of Communism in the partitioned Northern states of Vietnam, Korea and Japan. The Soviet Union is drawn into the regional conflict as the Cold War turns hot.

Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha
Gazi Mustafa Kemal
In 1914, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pashai, Governor-general of al-Andalus was assassinated in Paris by Frankish anarchists. During the subsequent August days, a diplomatic crisis escalated from al-Andalus demands to send detectives into Frankish territory. The uneasy peace that has lasted for centuries between Arabs and Europeans ..

In 1946, the Zionist Menacham Begin detonated an Irgun bomb at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, headquarters of the British civil and military administration, killing 90. However his organisation was eclipsed by the Israeli Liberation Organisation which became the stand-bearer for Zionist efforts to establish the State of Israel, a goal which was unachieved by the time of Begin's death. The importance of Menachem Begin in Israel's national identity cannot be contested since in 2005 a poll conducted showed him gaining the highest result as the leader that Israelis missed the most, out polling even David Ben-Gurion and Yitzhak Rabin.

In 1977, Chinese Communists under leader Deng Xiaoping were restored to power in Beijing following twenty years in exile inside the Soviet Union. in 1953, Rosalind Franklin's apartment is searched thoroughly for evidence, and the police find the notes and papers she took from James Watson and Francis Crick's lab the night they were murdered. Professor William Hughes of Cambridge, who follows them as an unofficial advisor, looks through the notes and is fascinated. “My God, they did discover the secret of life,” he says after reading for some time. The prosecutor wishes to press charges against both Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin; after all, they have Dr. Wilkins' fingerprints on the murder weapon. Professor Hughes speaks with Wilkins again, to see if he can convince the errant scientist to give them any more information about the night that Watson and Crick died. Wilkins is remarkably close-mouthed until Hughes tells him that he is still under suspicion because of his fingerprints on the gun that killed the researchers. Wilkins deflates, and begins telling the story of that fateful night. “After their performance at the pub, I had a few more drinks, and then I went back to the department; you know, just to see if I could polish up some work of my own. After a bit, Rosalind came in, and we got into a bit of a row. She accused me of robbing her of her just desserts, which was true, I guess. So, after we yelled at each other for a while, she stormed out. She said she was going to get James and Francis to give her credit on their paper.” He looked up at Hughes. “Then, I heard her scream. I rushed out, as best I could with all the drinks I'd had, and I saw her standing at the doorway of James and Francis' office.” He passed his shaking hand over his face. “There were pools of blood all over the floor.” Professor Hughes stopped him. “Wait. They were already dead?” Dr. Wilkins nodded slowly.

in 1692, the glorious beginnings of the Lord's mission on Earth stirred in the small village of Jerusalem in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Speaking through a few small children, the Lord uncovered a den of witches and sorcerers and moved the good people of Jerusalem to destroy them without mercy. The faith of the Jerusalemites became renowned throughout the colony, and Justice William Stoughton was elevated to the high office of Governor by King William and Queen Mary themselves. They spoke of being moved by the Hand of God in this matter, and the works of God spread throughout their North American colonies, with Governor Stoughton at the forefront of this Holy Mission.

in 1953, Cambridge biologist William Hughes, nursing a massive hangover, teaches his classes in a daze and hangs around his departmental offices for a short while before heading home. Conversation turns to the spectacle that James Watson and Francis Crick had made the night before, speaking in cryptic terms of discovering the secret of life. He notices that two of the academicians in the room don't share in the general mirth of the room, but doesn't think anything more of it until the next day, when he discovers Watson and Crick's dead bodies.

in 1966, a probe launched by the Soviet Union crash-lands on Venus. For a few brief moments, its signal is able to punch through the thick atmosphere and send back a single image of the surface of Earth's neighbors. When the team of Soviet scientists decode it, they are fascinated by what they see – it appears to be a foot. They are barely able to contain themselves until the follow-up probe, Venera 4, lands a year later.

Niven never made any public statement of approval for the rise of fascism in Anglo-America, and most probably he suited the role of English officer and gentleman rather than sought it.

Black Spartacus

August 21st, 2005

in 1831, the African Insurrection is started by the Virginian slave, Nat Turner. After killing his owner, Turner and the other former slaves on that plantation traveled to Jerusalem, Virginia, gathering hundreds of other African slaves into their ranks. When 3000 whites met them after their raid on the Jerusalem armory, the African ranks had swelled from escaped slaves across the south, and they continued their quest for freedom until November, when they were decimated in Florida as they prepared to set sail for Africa.

in the Dreaming, the people who have allied themselves with the enemies of Wandjina are now known as the Hunted, and they are hated above all others. The people who have repented their actions remain on the land and leave Heaven to the great spirits and their enemies.

in 11-15-3-9-13, the Pueblo, allies of Ouezteca, fought off an invasion on their northeastern frontier by pale-skinned barbarians. The barbarians claimed that they were fleeing an empire across the Eastern Ocean that enslaved their kind. The Pueblo sent word to Emperor Intlitlatl that this foreign empire might pose a danger to their land.

in 1892, seismic and volcanic activity returned to normal levels; the surviving members of the Bandai group were feted as world saviors. At the Congress of Nations, though, the Executive Committee began a meeting in which they discussed the possibility of scaling back the use of Mlosh technology on earth.

in 1911, a priceless treasure was taken from public view forever when the Mona Lisa, DaVinci’s masterpiece, was stolen from the Louvre. Though much suspicion fell on a guard who disappeared the same day, neither he nor the painting were ever seen again. One can only hope that the maestro’s most famous work is suitably appreciated by whatever thief currently possesses it.

in 1946, Reichsfuehrer Adolf Hitler of the New Reich dealt with a nascent pacifist movement in Germany by arresting and executing all of its leaders. “Pacifism is simply undisguised cowardice,” he said by way of justification.

in 1959, when Li Huang-Sen and Huan Yue leave Po Zhizuan’s farm, he has a change of heart, and tells them that they can stay. But the farmer wishes no more trouble, and asks that Li merely hide if more soldiers come. Li agrees, but insists that Huan Yue hide with him if that situation arises.

in 1961, in yet another example of the new unrelenting colonialism the British enacted after World War II, Kenyan independence leader Jomo Kenyatta is executed. Although they were still fighting Indian unrest after the Gandhi execution, the British insisted on killing the leaders of any resistance movements, and Kenya, like India before it, erupted in chaos.

in 1968, after a flirtation with communism known as the Red Summer, Czechoslovakia was invaded by fascist troops to bring them back in line with the White governments of Western Europe. The move was roundly denounced by the Soviet States of America, which sent several planes to assist the Czechs, but who didn’t feel moved enough to bring any further aid, which might have sparked a war in Europe.

in 4684, the Chinese Empire was rocked by a huge earthquake around the Himalayas. Hundreds were killed amid the first true test of the new, democratic China – Emperor Chou En-Lai dispatched aid for the citizens and troops to restore order. The disaster proved that democratic processes worked well – people were assisted without the need for martial law.

in 1994, aging acid rocker John Denver, stoned and drunk, plowed his Porsche into a tree, killing himself. He had been on a comeback, having played a few major tours in the 90’s due to younger acts remaking his old hits.

in 1996, Dr. Melvin Courtney and one of his few remaining academic associates, Professor Malcolm Thomas, arrive in America, landing in Los Angeles. A military escort is waiting for them when they arrive, and they are driven out to Edwards Air Force base, where Colonel Jim Carver is waiting for them. “Doctor, I believe we found something that will look quite familiar to you.” He shows them to a hangar where an object very similar to the Chimanimani object is sitting. At the request of the Air Force, he begins work on the writing found on the object, comparing it to his notes on the Chimanimani object.

in 2004, the 3rd Lalandian-style ship is produced by Boeing’s Washington shipyard, and this one is claimed by the world’s astronomical community. Although it will eventually be stationed outside the Oort cloud, they take the opportunity of the long trip there to study the planets on the way; some of the astronomers joke that they’ll brave the Elders for such a close look at the rest of the solar system.

Establishment Of The Congress Of Nations

July 8th, 2005

in 477, the faithful of Jerusalem destroyed the infidel Godfrey as his forces marched around the holy city’s walls. Never would an unbeliever set foot within Jerusalem’s sacred streets.

in 1709, Charles XII of Sweden defeated Peter the Great of Russia in battle at Poltava in the Ukraine. The Swedish Empire grew even larger after that, swallowing up chunks of Russia over the years, and, after Peter’s death in 1725, annexing the once-great nation altogether.

in 1864, the Congress of Nations is established. The Mlosh First Chancellors of the North American Confederation and Ml’Astra both speak at the opening, as do Prime Minister Henry Palmerston of England and Karangan King Abayomi. The event in Cairo, Egypt is marred by violence as Human League terrorists fire at the stage during First Chancellor Telgala’s speech, disintegrating the podium she was standing behind. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the terrorists were apprehended immediately.

in 1881, druggist Edward Berner of Two Rivers, Wisconsin felt that he needed a gimmick to set his drugstore apart from others. Being something of a historian, he knew of an old 18th century dessert called ice cream, that had failed to catch on in the U.S. He tried to revive it by pouring chocolate syrup over it. As delicious as the syrup was, it couldn’t revive the full dish – people ate the syrup and left the ice cream.

in 1947, rancher Mac Brazel is taken into custody at the Roswell Army Air Base, and questioned about the wreckage. Repeatedly, the military interrogators ask him about a second crash, and where the aliens are. Several newspapers break the story that a flying saucer has crashed in Roswell, New Mexico.

in 4648, the b’Han scientists finish their preliminary mission on earth and take their leave of Emperor Dao-Ming. While they have enjoyed his company, and he their’s, they have some criticisms they give him of the government he rules over. “In your society, people are born to a class and die in that class. For a high-born individual such as you, this is a fine existence, filled with opportunities as well as challenges. But, what motivation does someone born in the lower classes have? What opportunities are permitted them, to leaven the challenges that your society places in their way? In our society, we all have an equal voice in determining the path of our people. But here, your voice alone does that.” The emperor was troubled at their words, so they left him with this: “We believe that you are a being of good moral values; that you wish to do what is right. Perhaps it is time to search within your spirit to determine what that right is.”

in 1961, country singer Toby Keith was born. During the Second Gulf War, Keith’s Marines Reserve unit was called up, and he left music to fight for his country. He was killed in Iraq during the Fallujah uprising.

in 1981, John Hartnett and Matthew Knoll (better known as Electro-Man and Sparky of the Vegas 6), along with Cynthia Matthews (Meteora), visit their families in Las Vegas one last time before the assault on Area 51 to stop the spread of the genetically engineered virus brewing in the facility. Hartnett, unwilling to risk his grandson’s life, stuns Knoll and leaves him at home so that his life will be spared.

in 2000, a cargo plane lands on a private strip in New York. The huge package it is carrying from Russia is hastily unloaded and put on a truck bound for New York City. The truck fights one of the worst storms in the city’s history as it drives towards the office building owned by Steve Huff, the businessman who had arranged for the transfer of the item from the Kremlin.

Buonaparte Conquers Jerusalem; Lincoln Assassination Attempt

April 14th, 2005

in 979, King Aethelred the Unready proved just how unready he was when he fell to Danish intrigue, placing the English under the crown of Denmark. The Danish Empire conquered the rest of the British Isles over the next century, and threatened to conquer the whole of the continent in the 1200’s.

in 1799, Italian Emperor Buonaparte declares that he will reestablish the kingdom of Israel, and conquers Jerusalem to make his point. The Jews of Europe begin flocking to their ancestral home at the Emperor’s request.

in 1865, Giles Nelson, an officer in the Army taking leave from the Civil War in Washington, D.C., foils an assassination attempt on President Lincoln at the Ford Theatre. Nelson had noticed a suspicious character trying to sneak into the president’s box and stopped him. After a brief struggle, he subdued the assassin, southern sympathizer John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln, decorating him later, called him “my personal saviour”.

in 1902, French scientists Marie and Pierre Curie isolate the miracle element of Curium. Its many properties include a healing ability that cures the couple of the cancer that has been killing them since they began their work in radioactive elements.

in 1912, lookouts manage to warn the RMS Titanic of an iceberg in time to avoid a fatal collision. The iceberg crushes part of the hull, but the ship is able to limp its way to the Canadian coast. The White Star line faced large doses of negative publicity afterwards, but at least they were able to keep up their reputation of being unsinkable.

in 1952, under the starlight of a Kenyan jungle, the Baron of Death finds an old temple that had been built to his recently-freed ancestor. Inside, he finds a faded parchment that details how she was trapped the first time; von Heflin and his lover Velma Porter spring into action to recreate the conditions that trapped her before.

in 1988, America bows to international pressure and withdraws from Guatemala after a decade-long effort to keep the socialist government in power there. Archbishop Oscar Romero moved in and established himself as the new power in the country, turning the small nation into a Catholic theocracy. The Soviet States of America, stinging from its worst military defeat since Chile, denounced Romero and started an embargo against the new Guatemalan regime.

in 1997, the Egyptian 5th Regiment joined the British Royal Marines in their push through Florida. American anti-Constitutionalists, liberated by the Allies, joined in the fighting and moved many Americans to turn against President Shephard’s forces, further weakening the Constitutionalist side.

in 0, a young couple in the Near East have a child that is destined to change the world, that will be truly known as the son of God. His mother is a virgin, and men come from afar to show him respect and give him gifts. His name, which will be trumpeted across the world, is Mithra.

in 0, Joseph of Nazareth and Mary, his young bride, give birth to a son in the town of Bethlehem, where they had gone for a Roman census of their land. Four men of distant lands bring the newborn gifts, saying that he is to be the King of Kings, the Messiah of the Hebrew people. The gifts of frankincense, myrrh and gold are easily understood by the Hebrew couple; but the gift of something called a time/space locator, from the wise man known as Tolman, completely mystifies them.

in 4 B.C., Yeshua of Nazareth is born while his family is visiting relatives in Bethlehem. A charismatic speaker and innovative religious philosopher, Yeshua reenergizes the Hebrew faith through his subtle interpretation of God as Father, where previous rabbis had only taught of Him as Lord. This new vision of the faith swept Judaism, and helped it extend even to the Gentiles, who converted in mass numbers during Rabbi Yeshua’s life. His son continued his teachings, and Yeshua’s vision of Judaism is now the dominant sect in the world’s most numerous faith.

in 753 AUC, Roman soldiers capture a married Hebrew couple that are attempting to escape the census. While they are in prison, the woman gives birth to a boy, whom the soldiers take away. in 1914, British and German troops begin an unofficial truce in the war in France. They warily cross the no-man’s land they had been fighting over, exchange drink, food and small gifts; they even play football together. When they are ordered to begin fighting by their superiors, they refuse; their rebellion spreads across the lines until a great pacifist movement topples the governments of all the European powers fighting in the war, and replaces them with governments committed to peace.

in 1998, after decades of neglect, Comrade President Sam Webb lights an official Christmas Tree at the White House, and Christians across the Soviet States of America display their own trees openly again. The Communist Party’s embrace of religious freedom is a sign that the party is the instrument of the people again, and is hailed across the world as a miracle.

in 2001, Eurasia celebrates its first Christmas since the overthrow of the German Reich. In a gesture of reconciliation, the Eurasian Union hosts representatives of the Semitic-African Resistance at their headquarters in Berlin, and a declaration is signed by delegates from all the nations that they would never allow the slaughter of the last century to occur again.

As the order to sack Jerusalem is given, She opens the walls of the Cathedral with a clap of Her hands, and calls Pope Righteous out to face Her. in 1915, actress Carla Lambert married Spanish director Jose Contreras. It was mainly a marriage of convenience; Contreras was homosexual and needed the respectability that marriage could give him, and Lambert, who didn’t want to be married, needed someone to appear to be the father for her son. The pressures of this public lie finally came to a head in 1923, and they divorced. Lambert never remarried.

in 1881, druggist Edward Berner of Two Rivers, Wisconsin felt that he needed a gimmick to set his drugstore apart from others. Being something of a historian, he knew of an old 18th century dessert called ice cream, that had failed to catch on in the U.S. He tried to revive it by pouring chocolate syrup over it. As delicious as the syrup was, it couldn’t revive the full dish – people ate the syrup and left the ice cream.

in 4648, the b’Han scientists finish their preliminary mission on earth and take their leave of Emperor Dao-Ming.

In 1945, American B-29 bombers attacked Tokyo, Japan with incendiary bombs. The resulting fire storm killed over 100,000 people and Japan's leaders (gozenkaigi) decided, in principle, to accept the uncompromising terms the Allies had set down for ending the war in the Potsdam Declaration. However it was only after several more days of behind-the-scenes negotiations and a failed coup attempt that Emperor Hirohito gave a radio address to the nation, the Imperial Rescript on Surrender, announcing the acceptance on March 15. The day is commemorated as Victory over Japan Day in the U.S. and Shusen-kinenbi (memorial day for the end of the war) in Japan.

Worse, his pro-war stance had alienated younger voters. Justifying the War was a hard sell on young Americans who had not seen service in the defence of democracy, or whose families were not steeped in military tradition. Perhaps in time these young people would see that the loss of Vietnam would have been an unimaginable defeat for America. President Goldwater was fully justified in introducing nuclear weapons into the theatre. McCain believed that as much today, as he did when he was shot down on October 27, 1967, returning to the USS Forrester having dropped the big one on Hanoi.

While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: 'The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.'

Going at once to the infernal one, Judas said, 'Greetings, Antichrist!' and kissed him. Damien replied, 'Friend, do what you came for.'
 -
Then the men stepped forward, seized Damien and arrested him. With that, one of Damien's companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

'Put your sword back in its place, Damien said to him. 'Its as old as Jerusalem,' Damien said, 'Hang the body of your enemy or betrayer upside down so his head faces earth instead of heaven.' ~ Grand Grimoir, Matthew Chapter 47.
