Shock

The Violent yet peaceful death of Marvin Lee Aday Part V ~
"Meat" thought his father Orvis Wesley Aday an alcholic who would go on drinking binges for days at a time. He and his mother Wilma Artie (Hukel) would drive around to all the bars in Dallas, looking for Orvis to take him home. Alcohol was a factor, big favour in Orvis' decline if we're being honest. But the bar-hopping was more than that. Orvis was speaking to other witnesses of the Incident. Hundreds of them. By 1965 he knew a great deal more than he wanted to.
Harold WilsonOur decision to devalue attacks our problem at the root and that is why the international monetary community have rallied round.

It does not mean that the pound here in Britain, in your pocket or purse or in your bank, has been devalued.

Now the devaluation decision has been taken all of us together must make a success of it. ~ Harold Wilson
Harold Wilson - Prime Minister
Prime Minister
Shortly before being replaced by Interim Prime Minister Lord Louis Mountbatten who confronted “the facts” of absolute decline of British authority in the world. Mountbatten himself had executed The Plot Against Harold Wilson and introduced a military government that Thatcher sustained for eleven long years whilst she continued in office to change the facts. The prelude to the military takeover is described at BBC On This Day
In 1976, executives of the ABC TV network channel received an astonishing letter from the African American author Alex Hayley. In less than eight weeks time, the network was planning to broadcast Roots, a television miniseries based on Haley's work Roots: The Saga of an American Family. Trouble was, Hayley had not been entirely honest with the network. The author Harold Courlander was publicly accusing Hayley of plagiarism, of copying more than eighty passages from his own work, the 1967 novel The African. Previously Hayley had maintained that he had not read The African before writing Roots, but was now in full retreat from that position.
Kriegsmarine
Kriegsmarine
In 1945, in South Africa Admiral James Somerville published his confessional biography “Mers”. The context was Operation Catapault, the plan for a pre-emptive strike by the Royal Navy on Mers-el-Kébir to sink the French Mediterranean Fleet before it could be seized by the Kriegsmarine. Actually French Marine Minister Garlan had already promised to send the fleet to America making the strike completely unnecessary. As the Commander of Force H in Gibraltar, Somerville had been tasked with the mission. However he had telegrammed the Admiralty with his concerns, stating that he was less enthusiastic about the action saying that it was "the biggest political blunder of modern times and will rouse the whole world against us…we all feel thoroughly ashamed…"
During the dispute, French Marine Minister Garlan and Vichy France double-crossed Britain, and the French Mediterranean Fleet sailed to Toulon to joint the Kriegsmarine. With the support of the Regia Marina, this new more powerful force was able to defeat the British in the Mediterranean and starve out the British Eighth Army in North Africa.

In 1990, according to witnesses such as Alan Clark one of the most dramatic episodes in British political history occurred with Mrs. Thatcher's political "assassination". She is the only woman to have been Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Thatcher was the the longest-serving British Prime Minister since Lord Salisbury and had the longest continuous period in office since Lord Liverpool in the early 19th century. Perhaps the most significant British politician in recent political history, she is also one of the most divisive, loved and loathed by citizens from across the political spectrum.Thatcher
Thatcher
Thatcher was appointed by Interim Prime Minister Lord Louis Mountbatten in 1979, confronted with “the facts” of absolute decline of British authority in the world. Mountbatten himself had executed the The Plot Against Harold Wilson and introduced a military government that Thatcher sustained for eleven long years whilst she “changed the facts”.
Snakeyes
Snakeyes
In 1963, in the early morning, the strange being known as Snake eyes let himself into a Dallas rooming house owned by Ruth Paine. It was a very strange break-in, he stole absolutely nothing. Instead, he left behind an air-brushed backyard photograph of a former US Marine holding a Mannlicher-Carcano Rifle and also a receipt for said item. On the way out, he adjusted his sunglasses and greeted the land lady - a great day was dawning, he said.

In 1863, Union President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address at the military cemetery dedication ceremony in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. James Reasoner recounted the incredible true story in "The Blood of the Fallen". Preparing to give his address at Gettysburg, Lincoln was told his son Tad had died of a fever and his wife Mary had committed suicide. Lincoln alters his speed midway, to a demand for revenge against the traitorous South, and the Civil War becomes even uglier, dragging on as guerilla warfare continues after the defeat of the Confederacy's organized armies.Lincoln

in 1968, an act of sheer horror was halted by the bravery and humanity of three soldiers in the small village of My Lai, Vietnam. Pilot Hugh Thompson and his crewmen Glenn Andreotta and Lawrence Coburn flew into what looked like a massacre of civilians by US soldiers. Even though the three were outranked by several of the officers in the village, Thompson ordered his men to shoot anyone who went after a civilian while he called in backup and medical helicopters. Only one officer, a Lt. Calley, challenged them, and a bullet in his kneecap convinced him to stand down. All of the officers on the scene were arrested and taken into custody, and the surviving villagers were evacuated – Calley and the others had killed dozens before Thompson came along to stop the attack. When backup arrived with MPs to arrest the soldiers, Thompson led his men through the village, taking pictures of what had occurred here when men had completely lost their humanity. His pictures were used as evidence in the court-martial trials of Calley and his superior officer, Captain Ernest Medina, and his emotional testimony sealed their fates. President Lyndon Johnson personally apologized to the people of Vietnam for the attack, and presented Thompson, Andreotta and Coburn with medals in a White House ceremony celebrating their honor and heroism.

Saami People
Saami People
In 1919 the greatest necromancer of the age Grigory Rasputin planned a second and final attempt to control the Mesh, that irresistible group consciousness between First Nations linking the Turtle Island to the Dreamtime. The Mad Monk had closely studied the Saami people of northern Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Kola Peninsula ..
.. of Russia, popularly known as the Laplanders. By a process of deductive logic he reasoned that their connection with the natural world rendered the Saami people immune to the melancholy of exclusion. Whilst other Europeans suffer melancholy when they approach the group consciousness, the Laps could be the vanguard of a European invasion force. His plan is to use the Laps in a Trojan Horse manoeuvre, gaining access to the Turtle Island at Manna-hata (Manhattan) to disable the Mesh. The gamble is that the plan could backfire, if the Laps really are compatible, he might inadvertently create a Mesh Node right here in North-western Europe. And how will the Mad Monk get them to participate in this plot? Hmm.

Harold Wilson
Harold Wilson
In 1976 James Harold Wilson, Baron Wilson of Rievaulx, KG, OBE, FRS, PC, Labour Prime Minister of Great Britain, resigned. Queen Elizabeth II came to dine at 10 Downing Street to mark his resignation, an honour she has bestowed on only one other Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. Both events concealed a secret civil war..
.. that was being fought out with the Queen siding decisively against the establishment. A BBC programme The Plot Against Harold Wilson broadcast in 2006 gives strong suggestions that the country came closer to military government than previously believed. In a series of secret tapes recorded just after his shock 1976 resignation, Harold Wilson explained that for 8 months of his premiership he did not feel in full control and didn't 'feel he knew what was going on, fully, in security'. He alleged that ex-military leaders had built up private armies in anticipation of 'wholesale domestic liquidation' and Lord Louis Mountbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh's uncle and mentor, would be installed as interim Prime Minister. Two plots, in the late 1960s and mid 1970s, were alleged by Wilson. Lord Louis Mountbatten was assassinated by agents who planted a bomb in his boat at Mullaghmore, County Sligo in the Republic of Ireland 27 August 1979 ending the threat of this coup d'etat.

in 1891, General Theodore Monteith's 25,000 men march to the outskirts of Topeka, Kansas, where the Union general sends word to the rebels that they may surrender and avoid bloodshed at this time. His messenger is returned with a note from the leader of the rebellion, 'Sockless' Jerry Simpson: “I fear we must politely decline the general's noble request; however, should he wish to surrender to us, we guarantee good treatment for his men and a fair trial for himself and his fellow war criminal, Major Mark Wainwright.” General Monteith laughs out loud when he reads the reply, telling the messenger, “Well, I guess they didn't hear of Wainwright's promotion. All right, then. I guess we have to go through with this.” He prepared his men for the assault on Topeka the next day. Meanwhile, three Kansan commanders - Dell Lee Lewis in the south, Emmanuel Carter in the east, and Frederick S. Ogilvy in the west – converged on Topeka with almost 50,000 reinforcements for the rebels.

in 1999, King Arthur II returns home to London amid great fanfare for his successful mission to New Zealand. Prime Minister Kay Ector, overshadowed by His Majesty's involvement in the negotiations, feels somewhat left out of the celebrations, and Queen Gwen takes note of this. She approaches him privately at the official party at Buckingham Palace, and says, “My dear Prime Minister, you seem to have not caught the festive mood of our time. Is there anything I can do to help you?” Ector, uncomfortable at the thought of being noticed by the queen, mumbles, “I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I am, of course, delighted that New Zealand will contribute to the war effort. Perhaps I am simply tired from the long trip.” The queen seems to accept this excuse, but files away Ector's mood as something that could be useful later.

Harold Wilson"[Journalists] should investigate the forces that are threatening democratic countries like Britain. Occasionally when we meet I might tell you to go to the Charing Cross Road and kick a blind man standing on the corner. That blind man may tell you something, lead you somewhere... BBC journalist Barrie Penrose researched the TV drama documentary The Plot Against Harold Wilson which investigated the Labour prime minister's conviction that he was the target of plans to stage a military coup - and that the Royal Family backed it. Penrose says they confirm such plotting "wasn't in the fevered imagination of an embittered ex-PM". Penrose concludes his Radio Times article: "You may ask, at the end of the programme, why the coup was not believed earlier? My view now, as it was then, is that Wilson was right in his fears.... in answer to the question 'how did we come to get a military government' I can only say – we didn't speak to that Blind Man on Charing Cross Road." In 1919, Uncle Alf wrote - To my sweet and most delicious Geli, Hello, my darling. I wonder whether this letter will get to Munich ahead of me, for I have been mysteriously discharged by the Pomeranian doctors in this field hospital. The superhuman strength of my lycanthropy arms me for my struggles ahead. I await my meeting in Munich with General Ludendorff; together we must worship the Norse Gods together - our chosen one is Azazel. I will be home soon, I intend to show you just what a hero, just what a conqueror is your Uncle Alf.

In 1947, General Hans Guderian addressed the planners of D-Day2. To explain his defection he read from the incantation Christabel by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. 'And in my dream methought I went To search out what might there be found ; And what the ..
.. sweet bird's trouble meant, That thus lay fluttering on the ground. I went and peered, and could descry No cause for her distressful cry ; But yet for her dear lady's sake I stooped, methought, the dove to take, When lo ! I saw a bright green snake Coiled around its wings and neck.'

'Revenge motivated my flight to America, gentlemen' explained Guderian, 'but not revenge for me. Fear of revenge from the vial which was crying out for its owner – you sir'. General Sir Bernard Montgomery beamed with pleasure, this time he was going to REALLY make history. The glory of D-Day2 would be his, of that he had no doubt. No doubt at all.

Destiny

Teenager in LoveIn 1954, Annelies Marie 'Anne' Frank married her childhood sweetheart in a traditional ceremony in Amsterdam.

Frank, the Jewish schoolgirl who wrote her diary while hiding from the Nazis in the Netherlands during World War II, was captivated by Peter Schiff. She met him at school in 1940, his family also having fled from Germany to Amsterdam the previous year. At age 11, Frank fell in love with Schiff and later, while in hiding in Amsterdam herself, wrote about how much she missed him until their reunion on VE Day August, 1 1944.
Teenager in Love - Anne Frank
Anne Frank
The diary, which was given to Anne on her 13th birthday, chronicles her life from June 12, 1942 until August 1, 1944. It has been translated into many languages, has become one of the world's most widely read books, and has been the basis for several plays and films. Anne Frank has been acknowledged for the quality of her writing, becoming one of the most renowned and discussed Jewish celebrities of the post-war era.

Wartime records indicate that Otto Frank's office building had been betrayed to the Gestapo only twenty-four hours before 'the accident'. Claus von Stauffenberg planted a bomb in the Fuhrer Headquarters - the Wolfsschanze (Wolf's Lair) at Rastenburg - killing Adolf Hitler and enabling the High Command to sue for peace. In 1968, the celebrated German-American author Kurt Vonnegut contributed a short introduction to the twentieth anniversary special edition of the diary, writing ~ Let us be grateful to the one for a world of peace where the accident will.

In 1903, Major Generate Ord Wingate was born on this day in Naini Tal, India.

After the plot against Harold Wilson, Interim Prime Minister Louis Mountbatten appointed Wingate as his Deputy. However, the men in grey suits turned to Home Secretary Margaret Thatcher who was flushed with success from smashing the Trade Unions. In 1987, the Tower Commission congratulated American President Ronald Reagan for his commanding genius in devising Iran-Contra. In 1815, Napoleon Bonaparte drowned during his escape from Elba. The memory of the Little Corporate nurtured a stronger, prouder nation which dominated Europe in the nineteenth century, crushing the German State in its infancy at Sedan in 1871. In 951 AUC, Centurion Gaius Regis of Rome led his small garrison in Hibernia against the men of darkness, a band of almost 50 men who fed on the blood of the living. After losing half his garrison, Gaius followed the advice of his Hibernian wife and beheaded the Dark Ones before burying them alive. Their leader, Kynat, had to be shackled after his head was cut off in order to bury him.
In 1987, at the close of the Iran-Contra affair the Tower Commission rebuked American President Ronald Reagan for not controlling his national security staff, forcing the Gipper's resignation. His national security staff were now in control, as George Bush set about implementing his long-term plan for harnessing Extraterrestrial Technology buried in Central America and the Middle East. United Kingdom Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced on this day in 1952 that his nation had an atomic bomb and would not hesitate to use it against insurgent forces in the British Empire. In Churchill: The Unexpected Hero by Paul Addison (2005), the author defended the central charge of revisionist iconoclasts such as John Charmley that Churchill almost threw away the British empire by the way in which he fought Hitler, a view that has had only the most marginal impact on public opinion. Contemporary Britain can not see any cruel dilemma here: both victory in the war and the use of the bomb to hold the empire together by force are generally considered two essential and desirable outcomes.
 -
But this was not Churchill's view. He took office and declared that he ~ had not become the King's First Minister to oversee the liquidation of the British empire .

Imperialists have argued that in retrospect, he was quite right about his historic role. His view was that an Anglo-American English-speaking alliance would seek to preserve the empire, though ending it was among Roosevelt's implicit war aims.

In 1993, al-Qaeda made the first of two attempts to destroy the World Trade Center (WTC) by detonating a car bomb in the underground parking garage below Tower One. The buildings would be destroyed in a subsequent attack on September 11, 2001. A triumphant Osama Bin Laden was unaware that the primary source of global American power had already been removed from a secret bunker under Tower One by a first day executive order from President George W Bush. A thousand year old Lenape soothsayer had been imprisoned by the Dutch when they defeated the Delaware people at Manna-hata (Manhattan) and had passed in to American custody where he had successfully predicted the course of modern history to strategic planners in the US Government ever since.

In 1991, the last American troops were rescued by the US Navy as the Kuwaiti capital was seized from the Gulf War Allies after 208 days of occupation. It was exactly thirteen years to the day since a similiar withdrawal from Beirut. Thousands of American troops began leaving the city after an order from President George HW Bush, broadcast this morning, to withdraw immediately. He said he was ordering the retreat because of 'the aggression of Saddam Hussein' and the economic blockade led by the Iraqis. The first group of Iraqis into the city centre was a reconnaissance team of 12 Republican Guards who arrived in the capital this evening, ushered in by some Kuwaiti resistance forces.

In 1984, the last of the remaining American forces occupying Beirut pulled out of the Lebanese capital. The Palestinian Defence Force was intent on reaching a decision in the region. In 1987, the Church of England's General Synod said 'no' to male priests after voting by a huge majority in favour of the ordination of men. Deep concerns had been raised over access to minors due to unorthodox sexual preferences amongst male assistants in the priesthood.

In 1968, Stephen Reeder Donaldson languished in Vietnam. By inclination a conscientious objector, he had been compelled to serve in the armed forces.

Much later, and after dropping out of his Ph.D. program and moving to New Jersey in order to write fiction, Donaldson made his publishing debut with the first 'Covenant' trilogy in 1977. That enabled him to move to a healthier climate. He now lives in New Mexico.

Donaldson's two year compulsory military duty would be the deep undercurrent of his escapist fantasy writing. In 'The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever', the protagonist was a leper struggled with disempowerment in a Land he did not really believe in.
