in 1538, Pope Henry VIII excommunicated Duke Alessandro Farnese of Rome after the Duke had let slip that he didn’t approve of the attitude His Holiness held towards marriage. The Duke had been a supporter of the Reborn Roman Church, and Pope Henry never forgave him.

in 1751, Jane Reddings, Generation 2359 in the Speaker’s Line, organizes the first European meeting of the Speaker’s Children. Over 400 of Telka’s descendants crowded into her estate outside Sheffield to learn of the progress being made in realizing their common dream. This meeting led to contact with counterparts across the globe, and the first grand reunion of the Speaker’s Children in 1786, at the same time the Montgolfier brothers were flying across the Parisian sky.

in 1792, independent Canada is recognized by the government of France, which has recently been through its own revolution. After France formally recognizes the Canadians, the American Commonwealth follows, then Germany, Spain, most of the Scandinavian nations, and finally, in 1806, Great Britain.

in 1877, the Baron Von Todt arrived in Paris, France. Mikhail von Heflin had left his native Bohemia centuries before, wandering across Europe in a vain attempt to discover the secret of his continued existence. Wherever he dwelt for any length of time, though, people close to him began to die, and he found it necessary to move again. He hoped that the size of Paris would keep him anonymous for a time.

in 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright join the long line of inventors attempting to get a heavier-than-air craft off the ground. After their failure in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the U.S. government decided that the only way to fly was with lighter-than-air craft, and built an Air Force using the new dirigible technology. The huge, gas-filled aircraft revolutionized international travel.

in 1941, James Crescent, the “World’s Luckiest Man”, was born in Reno, Nevada. Over his life, Crescent won almost $10 million at games of chance. He married his high school sweetheart, had 2 lovely children with her, and was reportedly one of the most well-liked people in all of Reno. When he disappeared in 1976, the police couldn’t find anyone who harbored ill will towards him; although they did hear of a drifter answering to the name “Tolman” who had been spotted near Crescent’s house the day of his disappearance. The drifter was never found, and the crime was never solved.

in 1869, the North American Confederation’s Air-Space Command closed down Project Red Shift, a 20-year program that had been charged with finding the Mlosh home world. Since no progress had been made in that time, the ASC concluded that the world was simply no longer anywhere that they could reach.

in 1975, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme is sentenced to life in prison for the assassination of President Gerald Ford. President Rockefeller had pushed for the reinstatement of the death penalty in this case, but California would not hear of it. Ms. Fromme was a model prisoner, though, but talk of her parole was ended when a fellow prisoner killed her in 1992.

in 1977, the most controversial band to ever appear on Saturday Night Live played their hearts out, live from New York. The Sex Pistols had been denied visas to enter the United States until virtually the last minute; they arrived in New York City with no time to rehearse before their appearance. Their foul language and on-stage antics sent the censors into fits, but it remains one of the shows highlights.

in 1992, the Community of Trade was formally dissolved. Most of its membership had been trading goods with capitalist nations for decades, anyway; this move simply acknowledged what they had all been doing already. Comrade President Sam Webb reluctantly signed the dissolution treaty, proclaiming it “the end of a century of progress among the nations”.

Death Comes To Paris; Luckiest Man In The World Is Born

Rescued by the Master

Peter MandelsonIn 2001, Northern Ireland Secretary, Peter Mandelson was confirmed in his position by British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Members of the inner circle had doubt whether Mr Blair would succeed in rescuing his familiar. An unknown source reported that Mandelson had his own fears – being hung upside down by his master in a gesture as old as Macedonia.

At the very least the Prince of Darkness had feared a second resignation from the cabinet over a row concerning a passport application from an Indian billionaire.
Peter Mandelson - Prince of Darkness
Prince of Darkness
It is the second time Mr Mandelson was under pressure to leave the cabinet in disgrace since Labour came to power in 1997. Mr Mandelson, a close confidant and friend of the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, said he did not accept he had acted "improperly in any way" over the passport affair.

Mr Mandelson had come under increasing pressure over the issue since the weekend. He strongly denied claims he pulled strings to help Srichand Hinduja secure a UK passport in return for a £1 million sponsorship deal for the Millennium Dome while Mr Mandelson was in charge of that project.

The Hinduja family is one of the most influential in the world and runs the transnational Hinduja group, a company with assets amounting to around $8 billion. Since 1990 Srichand Hinduja and his brothers Gopichand and Prakash have been defending themselves against criminal allegations in a long-running corruption case involving an arms deal between Swiss company Bofors and the Indian government. Srichand Hinduja, who with his brother Gopichand has lived in London since 1979, had his first application for UK citizenship refused in 1990.

Just after paying the sponsorship money, he asked Mr Mandelson whether he could apply again. The passport was granted soon afterwards.

Earlier on the same day, Mr Blair had summoned him to Downing Street to 'establish the facts' of his involvement. The next day, Minister for Europe Keith Vaz also became embroiled in the affair after it was revealed he had written to both the prime minister and Mr Mandelson about the Hinduja brothers in 1997.

In March 2001, an inquiry, led by Treasury solicitor Sir Anthony Hammond QC, cleared Mr Mandelson and placed the full responsibility for wrongdoing on Mr Vaz.

It was a textbook case study in the highest standards of integrity in public office, a key pledge from Tony Blair when he assumed office in 2007. Vaz felt somewhat differently, describing the events through a different perspective in his political biography 'Thrown to the Wolves'.

In 1966, the lives of 117 people were placed in jeopardy after an Air India Boeing 707 nearly crashed near the summit of Mont Blanc in the Alps. The plane was on a regular Bombay to New York flight when the accident happened at around 0800 local time. All 106 passengers and 11 crew landed safety at Geneva airport in Switzerland. Fortunately, a Brahmacharya soul deep was amongst the passengers. Exercising 'control of the senses in thought, word and deed' the brahmacari shaped time and space to avert Moksha.
 - Mont Blanc
Mont Blanc
One of the passengers included chairman of the Indian Atomic Energy Commission Dr Homi Jehangir Bhabha, who was on his way to Vienna. The remaining passengers were Indian nationals, 46 of whom were sailors. Six were British.

Dr Bhabha, described as a man 'who simply must not die' subsequently negotiated a nuclear free agreement for the subcontinent.

Gerard Devoussoux, a mountain guide who witnessed the scene, said: 'Another 15 metres (50ft) and the plane would have hit the rock. It would have made a huge crater in the mountain'.

Robert Bruce, from Tooting, who was waiting for his parents to arrive, said: 'I am so choked I cannot even cry. I will just go home with my parents and collapse. 'As far as I am concerned my world has been saved.'
.
In 1965, Winston Spencer Churchill died in his Falklands stronghold, buried under a boulder inscribed, 'Founding Father of the movement to uproot Nazidom from the world.' His mission is unfulfilled at the time of writing.
.
In 1945, after joking 'I drink and smoke and I am 200% fit' Winston Spencer Churchill died months before the end of World War 2, forcing the hopelessly unprepared Deputy Prime Minister Clement Attlee into office. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who had stopped smoking when he reached the Presidency, said that a similiar disaster in America would have had deeply profound consequences for the post-world war, a disguised reference to the Bomb.
.
In 1924, following a series of strokes Vladimir Lenin, founder of the Bolshevik Party, and father of the revolution is forced to shape change, fleeing his cadaver to occupy the body of the rude Georgian Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili. Through the cult of the personality, Stalin as he Vladimir Lenin is known is able to dilineate an uninterrupted rulership as General Secretary, which is very much the case given the continuity of the demon in the two bodies. He leaves the cadaver of Lenin on display, embalmed at a mausoleum in the Kremlin in case he ever needs to make a Dracula-style exit from Russia in the future.
.
In 1994, the Ames dossier demonstrated incontrovertible evidence of the CIA's role in the multiple Lee Harvey Oswald diversionary ploy. And some complementary words for the case file officer, George H.W. Bush.
.
In 793 AUC Caligula, who had briefly served as Rome’s emperor before a brain fever drove him mad, dies under the care of doctors in Rome. Hard as it was for Romans to depose an emperor, Caligula was clearly in no condition to continue to server Rome as its leader. Rumors that he even began speaking to his horse were never confirmed, but were not doubted.
.
In 1914, almost a year after vowing he would never work on it again, Franz Kafka finished his novel Amerika. Although most critics say that the beginning is a powerful tale of a European boy banished to America by scandal, the ending where the boy is turned into a sheep and eaten by coyotes in Oklahoma does tend to throw most people.
.
In 1986, Ron Hubbard, known for his rollicking western pulps in the 30’s and 40’s, and his more epic detective and western fiction afterwards, died at his home in San Francisco, California. Reverend Hubbard, who was ordained in the Church of Christ and led a huge congregation in San Francisco, always said he was unafraid to die, since that was the last promotion God could give him.
.
In 1986, Trade and Industry Secretary Leon Brittan became the second cabinet minister to resign over the Westland affair. Before the year was out, Mrs Thatcher would be the victim of a 'political' assassination, replaced by the more moderate Michael Heseltine.
.
In 1984, Apple Computers released the Macintosh, a personal computer with a graphical user interface, rather than the command line that most PC’s had used up to that point. This innovation, although not unique to Apple, rocketed them to the top of the computing world. By the end of the decade, they produced almost 80% of the computers used in America, and their operating system, licensed out to other computer manufacturers, today accounts for around 90% of the computing done in the world.
.
In 1971, British industrialist Frank Spencer and his wife Betty faced the cameras after mechanical failures onboard the British spacecraft Marie Celeste had been traced to his Factory. Spencer was asked to comment on the European Space Agencies' self-inflicted wound. The British really would have to do something about this quality control problem for next time, they had said.

The Fall Of Mordred

The Announcement

in 1891, 'Sockless' Simpson rallies his Kansan volunteers at Abilene. “We still outnumber them,” he tells the huge throng. “We still have right on our side. They surprised us at Topeka, but we will be careful from now on. They brought in allies from our neighboring states; they will be surprised to learn that we, too, have allies in those states, whom we are sending word to right now. This war, my friends, is far from over.” The assembled multitudes cheered loudly, mollified that they were only experiencing a temporary setback.

in 1999, Queen Gwen reads the message from Dr. Archibald Mordred that Sir Lance du Lac forwarded her, and growls at an assistant to have the doctor brought to her chambers. Once he is there, though, she puts on her sweetest face for him. “My good doctor,” she says, “I wanted to thank you for your discretion about the king's condition – and mine, too, of course. I was possibly feeling the hormonal shift a little too much when I snapped at you.” The doctor is put off-balance by the gentleness of her disposition, and relaxes slightly. “Of course, Your Majesty. I should think nothing of it.” Queen Gwen demurs, saying, “No, no, I must apologize for my rudeness to you. Forgive me?” He bows and says, “Certainly, My Queen.” She smiles at him as he straightens up, and extends a hand out to him, which he takes. He feels a small sharp pain in his finger, then looks at her in horror as he feels his own heart stopping. “I'm sorry, doctor, but I can't have you interfering with my plans at this late stage of the game.” She waits several moments until the doctor is good and still, then cries out in desperation for her people to summon medical help. Doctor Mordred is already beyond their help by the time they arrive.

In 1955, American Mandate Commander Dwight David Eisenhower stood on the deck of the battleship Missouri. "Will the Nationalists move more men across, General?" The young marine second lieutenant commanding the obserVation post shifted nervously "No need to. Ho Chi Minh already has an army behind us. Besides, we have the US Special Envoy's yacht to help."

In 31942, the author Robert Heinlein became possessed of an overpowering desire to know more about the High One who had built the Time Gate in the High Palace of Norkaal. No picture of the builder remained, no trace of writing, nothing of the being's works save the High Palace of Norkaal and the Gate. This absence created a sense of irreparable loss in the hearts of the descendants of humanity, the Forsaken Ones. Heinlein hunted back through time, seeking the Builder - it was slow work until he caught sight of a passing shadow through a tedious process of retracing-and failure. He set the controls back far enough to be sure that he had re-passed it, armed himself with food and drink and waited. He waited three weeks.

Fugitives
In 1760, at Manna-hata (Manhattan) the two European stowaways draw into the shadows of the Chinese Junk. They are very afraid of the fierce-looking Lenape chief Koquethagechton (“White Eyes”). They are mortally afraid of discovery, yes – but the real source of their fear is greater. They are fugitives from death itself.

In 2012, at Camp David, the second Mrs George Walker Bush was quite frankly teed off. It was four years since a nuclear exchange with the Axis of Evil countries had extirpated life above ground. George had missed the jogging more than anything. Although on balance it had to be said that his second marriage to Condoleeza .. Condoleeza Rice

In 2008, nobody turned up for work on the Phase 2 building works. A whole construction day down the tubes, surely that would sting someone's pocket at the end of the development? Perhaps, he wondered, they were waiting for delivery of materials. Maybe the construction company swapped the construction workers over to another .. Phase 2

Nuts Again

June 7th, 2007

The Announcement

in 1891, 'Sockless' Jerry Simpson sends back General Theodore Monteith's truce messenger with a one-word message: “Nuts.” Monteith prepares for a retreat out of Topeka, telling his men, “We'll be back. Have no doubt in your mind about that; we'll be back, and this will soon be over.” He manages to leave Kansas' capitol with surprisingly few casualties; most historians of the era feel that Simpson let Monteith leave without undue resistance because he wanted to preserve his own forces against any coming Union onslaught. Allowing Monteith to retreat unmolested proved a disaster for his comrades in Kansas City, where the general headed to relieve his chief aide, Lt. Colonel Mark Wainwright, who was in a hard fight in the border town.

in 1999, Leopold Turkavian, a former soldier of the Central European Empire and current assassin for the Illuminati, breaks into Queen Gwen's bedchambers in her Welsh retreat and attempts to kill her. The queen has other ideas, and fights Turkavian off long enough for her security detail to burst in and finish the man off. She tells them to be ready for more; “As the last of the Empire falls to us, their agents will grow more desperate. Take care that the king's guard watches him, as well.”

In 2003, in the West the Corporation's Source Project reached make-or-break point. Software developers built a game-world of nightmare and wonder. Evil called to evil. Windows were about to open into the world, and the Power shift dimensions. Perhaps unwittingly the Corporation would usher in the Magic Time.

In 10,195, AG Paul Atreides led a Fremen insurgency on Dune, terminating the supply of the Universe's most valuable commodity, the spice known as melange. The troops of Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV and Baron Vladimir Harkonnen arrived on the planet Dune for a showdown. They were supported by a coalition of the willing from the noble houses of the Landsraad; together, they must resume the supply of melange.

Plague spreads ..
In 1760, Yersinia pestis held court in the great continent of Europe and his mastery was absolute. His warriors Nosopsyllus fasciatus and rattus rattus had defeated the Royal families of Hapsburg, Romanov, Stuart, Hohenzollern inter alia and they ran riot in this fallen house. The great cities ..

Frederick Forsyth
Frederick Forsy..
In 1976, on this day the author Frederick Forsyth published the semi-fictional account “The Day of the Jackal”. The book depicted the events of 1974 when the Emperor Napoleon V Airport was belatedly opened by the Mayor of Paris, AndrĂ© Joseph Marie de Gaulle. The event was almost marred by an assassination attempt on ..
.. the Major. The assassin known as the Jackal, disguised as a war veteran, made his way to a building which faced the runway where de Gaulle presented veterans with medals. However, the Jackal failed to take into account the Gallic custom of kissing on both cheeks, expecting instead that de Gaulle would shake hands with the medal recipient. As the Jackal fired, de Gaulle simultaneously moved forward to kiss the recipient on the cheeks, causing the bullet to miss.

In 1994, London Underground train number AEJX57B pulled smoothly into Liverpool Street Station at rush hour. The platform could not be more crowded with humanity. in 1891, Lt. Colonel Mark Wainwright's forces in Kansas City receive good and bad news – the bad news is that General Monteith was forces to abandon Topeka, Kansas to the rebels. The good news is that Monteith is on his way to Kansas City. This news quickly spreads through the streets in the border town, and rebels begin abandoning the town in droves. Wainwright almost has the town under control by the time that Monteith arrives to mop up. The general arrives very determined to return to Kansas' capitol, and wants Wainwright to spend his every waking moment in planning to make it happen. “That city will be mine, Mr. Wainwright.” The colonel vows, “I shall expend all my resources to make it so, general.”

in 1999, an assassin attacks King Arthur II of Great Britain as he rests in his Welsh retreat with Queen Gwen. His Majesty is stabbed several times by the man that everyone assumes is sent by the Central European Empire's vestiges, and is flown to London just before lapsing into a coma. Queen Gwen goes on television to announce to the nation, in a tear-filled voice, that “no matter what these villains may do, no matter the atrocity that they perpetrate on those we love, we shall never rest, we shall never relent in our holy task to bring them to justice, and to cast them down from the command of nations.” Her stirring words rally the nation and send her personal popularity soaring. She is now in effective command of the country, and she pursues the war against her old masters ruthlessly, scouring them from the face of Europe wherever they are found.

In 2003, planes fell out of the sky, metal wings were replaced by leather and the lights went out for good. The Source Project had invited something catastrophic into the World. The Magic Time had begun.

Surging into the city to defeat the coalition of the willing, the Messiah found that the nuclear detonation had transported the Fremen back at least 20,000 years into unrecorded human history. They arrived at a different, yet no so different point in their distant past. The Fall of Baghdad, 2003 was being fought out by the noble House of Hussein al-Tikriti and the noble House of Bush.

Perversely, astrophilately was an idea whose time had come around, mostly as a result of the nuclear missile.
