Jesus	In 2007, the Ghost Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come shows Ebeenezer Scrooge a strange vision of the far future. Eugene Cratchit Facebooks an annual megablurb of a family update, "In May we hired a beachfront in Malibu, Timmo got that iPhone he wanted..Awesome!" Yet something is missing in this future. Or someone. Despite the wild extravagance there's not nearly so much joy as at the 1843 Cratchit family christmas. If these descendants thought they were having a nice day, they sure were lieing to themselves.
Is Love

In 1945, on this day US Army General George Smith Patton Jr. narrowly avoided serious injury in a road accident at Neckarstadt, (Käfertal), in the country outside Mannheim. At 11:45 a 2½ ton truck driven by T/5 Robert L. Thompson appeared out of the haze and made a left-hand turn towards a side road. The Cadillac smashed into the truck. His chief of staff, Major General Hobart R. "Hap" Gay, was thrown forward and his head struck a metal part of the partition between the front and back seats. The driver PFC Horace Woodring and Patton were uninjured. Paralyzed from the neck down, General Gay died of an embolism on December 21, 1945 at the military hospital in Heidelberg, Germany with his wife present.

In 1970, Elvis Presley became a narcotics officer for the FBI, under the direct order of Richard Nixon. With Presley’s help, most of the musical talent of the 60’s was put into prison on drug charges.

In 1958, Charles de Gaulle was elected President for life by an unstable and frightened French nation. Revolt in the Algerian colony led the French down the road of dictatorship, which de Gaulle followed with relish. Under his unquestioned reign, he forged closer ties with fellow dictator Franco of Spain, massacred workers and students who protested against his policies, and made France the world’s second-greatest nuclear power. The Second Napoleon, as he was known, was finally halted by death in 1970.

In 1945, private Kurt Vonnegut died of gangrene that had started in his mangled feet. After his capture on December 14th, German soldier has swapped his boots for clogs and force marched him and the “three musketeers” of the 106th Infantry Division into Germany's interior.

In 1945, on this day U.S. Army general George Smith Patton Jr. Died and entered Valhalla. Old Blood and Guts was a well-respected disciplinarian after the Slapping Incident, and he was planning to launch a political career until Eisenhower had him assassinated.

In 1614, Tommasso Caccini, a priest of Florence, spoke with Galileo Galilee for several hours to discuss the scientist’s theory that the earth circled the sun, and not the other way around. After this meeting, Caccini left the priesthood and devoted his life to spreading the word of science. He was executed for heresy in 1616.

In 1977, the Young people from the Norwich Choir spoke of their admiration for Home Secretary Margaret Thatcher returned forty-eight hours after a Christmas reception at Number 10 Downing Street. “Where there is discord, may we bring harmony” was one of the key messages they had taken on board. Shortly after the party, Thatcher had returned to her office and worked through the night on stockpile forecasts for primary resources oil and coal. Within the next twelve months, she would break the back of the British Trade Union movement for sure, provoking a Miner's Strike this time.

Violent End

In 1973, on this day mixed tributes were paid to the Spanish Caudillo, General Franco, who was killed in a car bomb attack in Madrid the day before. Franco's legacy is controversial. While some Spaniards remember him as a strong leader who pacified and stabilized Spain, others remember him as a harsh dictator. Issues surrounding his controversial legacy include whether the Second Spanish Republic he overthrew had become an unstable regime, the nature of the relationship between his politics and those of contemporaries Mosley, Hitler and Mussolini, the repressive policies adopted in cultural and regionalist domains, state centralization, the nationalist and corporatist ideology of the Movimiento Nacional, and the execution of thousands of military and political opponents during the civil war and in the early years after.

British Prime Minister Enoch Powell paid tribute to Franco, describing him as a great leader. Franco had united two great nations after five hundred years of conflict. The Armada was now "water under the bridge" he quipped.

Danville

In 2011, Patrick Danville died at twenty-two years old, having saved the lives of two men, one of whom must not die. Danville was saved himself in 1993 by Lois Chasse and Ralph Roberts at High Ridge in the State of Maine. Ralph and Lois had to save the boy's life at any costs, because the man he will save six years later is the author himself, Stephen King...

In 1992, with the Red Army massing along the borders of Western Germany, British Home Secretary Norman Lamont spoke candidly about the refugee crisis developing around the entrance to the Channel Tunnel at Coquelles near Calais in northern France. Controversially, Lamont made reference to Enoch Powell's Rivers of Blood speech from 1968– 'I seem to see the River Thames foaming with much blood.' Who now could say Powell was wrong about the vampire threat from Russia?

Rice	In 2009, President Condoleeza Rice labels litter as the third biggest problem in the world today after poverty and climate change. The following day Condi will speak to the nation with her proposals.

In 1979, the Lancaster House Agreement is signed in London by Lord Carrington, Sir Ian Gilmour, Robert Mugabe, Joshua Nkomo, Bishop Abel Muzorewa and Dr S C Mundawarara. Secret promises are made by the Britain Government to the White settlers regarding the security of their farms. These are underwritten by the South African government, who required a buffer state with Black Africa.

Lakota Sioux tribals	In 2007, the Reconstructed United Nations recognised the new nation of Lakota. The Lakota Indians, who gave the world legendary warriors Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, had withdrawn from treaties with the United States, leaders said Wednesday. "We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us," long-time Indian rights activist Russell Means told a handful of reporters and a delegation from the Bolivian embassy, gathered in a church in a run-down neighborhood of Washington for a news conference.

A delegation of Lakota leaders delivered a message to the State Department on Monday, announcing they were unilaterally withdrawing from treaties they signed with the federal government of the United States, some of them more than 150 years old. They also visited the Bolivian, Chilean, South African and Venezuelan embassies, and will continue on their diplomatic mission and take it overseas in the coming weeks and months, they told the news conference. Lakota country includes parts of the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. The new country would issue its own passports and driving licences, and living there would be tax-free -- provided residents renounce their US citizenship, Means said. The treaties signed with the United States are merely "worthless words on worthless paper," the Lakota freedom activists say on their website. The treaties have been "repeatedly violated in order to steal our culture, our land and our ability to maintain our way of life," the reborn freedom movement says.Withdrawing from the treaties was entirely legal, Means said. "This is according to the laws of the United States, specifically article six of the constitution," which states that treaties are the supreme law of the land, he said. "It is also within the laws on treaties passed at the Vienna Convention and put into effect by the US and the rest of the international community in 1980. We are legally within our rights to be free and independent," said Means. The Lakota relaunched their journey to freedom in 1974, when they drafted a declaration of continuing independence -- an overt play on the title of the United States' Declaration of Independence from England. Thirty-three years have elapsed since then because "it takes critical mass to combat colonialism and we wanted to make sure that all our ducks were in a row," Means said. One duck moved into place in September, when the United Nations adopted a non-binding declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples -- despite opposition from the United States, which said it clashed with its own laws. "We have 33 treaties with the United States that they have not lived by. They continue to take our land, our water, our children," Phyllis Young, who helped organize the first international conference on indigenous rights in Geneva in 1977, told the news conference. The US "annexation" of native American land has resulted in once proud tribes such as the Lakota becoming mere "facsimiles of white people," said Means. Oppression at the hands of the US government has taken its toll on the Lakota, whose men have one of the shortest life expectancies -- less than 44 years -- in the world. Lakota teen suicides are 150 percent above the norm for the United States; infant mortality is five times higher than the US average; and unemployment is rife, according to the Lakota freedom movement's website. "Our people want to live, not just survive or crawl and be mascots," said Young. "We are not trying to embarrass the United States. We are here to continue the struggle for our children and grandchildren," she said, predicting that the battle would not be won in her lifetime.

in 1891, a skirmish between a poorly-prepared Nebraskan militia unit and a trigger-happy group of Kansas farmers ends badly for the Nebraskans. They are forced to retreat when a much larger body of Kansas volunteers moves up to reinforce the farmers. They send a report off to General Anthony Franklin in Missouri, who is coordinating the attack on Kansas. He is highly displeased with the militia's effectiveness, and sends Major Mark Wainwright to Nebraska to take command of the siege there. Wainwright is happy just to get away from Franklin, whom he has grown to despise heartily.

in 1999, King Arthur II of Great Britain places his security chief, Sir Lance du Lac, at the head of the Royal Military, and du Lac hastily mobilizes defenses in the British Isles just in time to beat back the Central European Imperial troops crossing the English Channel. The Royal Air Force, recently upgraded by technology Prime Minister Merl Myrddin had bargained mightily for, fights off the CEE's war planes as they attempt to make bombing runs against the English and Welsh countryside. Commonwealth troops, on the move to Europe from around the world to aid the Mother Country in its struggle, meet opposition from the CE Imperial Navy, almost as if the CEE had known they were coming. Prime Minister Myrddin begins tapping the resources he still has as a former Illuminati to find where his security leaks are coming from.

In 1983 just before one o'clock the phone rang in the house of Bill Smith. As the Investigator in Charge of a National Transportation Safety Board Go-Team, he was informed of a collision between a DC-10 and a 747 over Oakland, California. There were no survivors. Paradoxically, nobody had died and this was one of the many reasons why this airline disaster threatened an end to the world as we know it.

Toronto	In 1813 during the War of 1812 United States troops captured the capital of Ontario, York (present day Toronto, State of Ontario). The long retreat from North America was almost over for Britain. The unnecessary war enabled the United States to assimilate Canadian territory at a point when barriers to cross-border union were not yet insurmountable.

In 1983 at a press conference on this day historians Hugh Trevor-Roper declared the diaries of Martin Bormann, known as the  Bormann Diaries  to be forgeries. The Journalist Gerd Heidemann was a liar, and Heidemann claims to have received the diaries from East Germany, smuggled out by a Dr. Fischer were falsehoods. ..	Bormann

Bush could not allow this episode to derail his thirty year program to rebuild American power using extraterrestrial technology ..

The role was envisaged briefly when both President Abraham Lincoln and Vice President Andrew Johnson were assassinated on the same day by the Lincoln Conspiracy in 1865. However the function envisaged by the role was not actually required until 1963 when both President Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon Baines Johnson were shot at Dallas by a Sicilian assassination team acting on the orders of the mob.

in 1891, the Farmers Council in Topeka informs former President Grover Cleveland that they cannot agree to his request that they surrender control of Kansas back to the former government. “This is the worst possible decision you could make,” Cleveland tells them. “We disagree,” Jerry 'Sockless' Simpson tells him. They issue a call for all able-bodied men of the state to stand ready to defend their homes against “the unjust attack by the false president, Benjamin Harrison.”

in 1998, Central European Imperial spies are brought to England and placed at the command of Prime Minister Oliver Pembroke. The Illuminati in Switzerland rejoice at this first move in suborning the legitimate government of England – after centuries of trying, they feel that they finally have the British right where they want them. Merl Myrddin, Arthur Pendrake's chief advisor and a former Illuminati himself, finds out about the British government's unexpected help and tells Arthur that this must become public knowledge quickly. He prepares the evidence he has and they arrange for a rally the next day.

Van Buren summoned all of his administrative experience from his previous appointments as 10th United States Secretary of State & 8th Vice President of the United States to put over his point with the maximum gravitas. ..

.. played out many times before, RMS Tayleur in 1854, RMS Atlantic in 1873, SS Naronic in 1893 and most recently RMS Republic in 1909. Trouble was that the cost-cutting had gone too far, the ship did not carry enough lifeboats for all her passengers and crew. The owners had dispatched a ship to the site of the collision beforehand with 3000 blankets on board for the survivors, they could only pray it arrived in good time.

Alternate Historian's Note: Welcome to a brand new year! Our Guest Historian, Stephen Payne, returns to us with an enhanced look to his entries, and we continue on with our NaNoWriMo novel. We're all hoping for a great holiday to you and yours, and many return trips to TIAH!

	In 2007 they have been pursued for a very long time. Father must not fail now, not when they are so close to their goal. Of course this cuts both ways and the pursuers have redoubled their efforts, knowing that time is short. Significantly both the pursuers and the pursued have reinforcements arriving just about now.

In 1892 the main port for immigrants entering the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was established on Ellis Island at the mouth of the Hudson River in New York Harbor. Sixteen years before the Statue of Liberty was given to the United States by the Paris based Union Franco-Americaine, standing at Liberty Island in the mouth of the Hudson River in New York Harbor as a welcome to all visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans, inscribed with the message "Bring me your poor and weak". Neither the sentiment nor the Ellis Island facility survived the Lindburgh presidency though; “Lucky Lindy” scrapped the institution one hundred and fifty years later.

In 1801 the legislative union of Kingdom of Great Britain and Kingdom of Ireland is completed to form the United Kingdom. Universally hated by the English, the isolation resulting from the Reformation had simply been too big a setback for them to resist the Union. The English were unable to stand up to the overwhelming power of the Celts and the support they commanded from Catholic Europe, and started to emigrate en mass to the Americas.

In 1959 President Fulgencio Batista is overthrown by Fidel Castro's forces during the Cuban Revolution. The United States became increasingly hostile to Cuba during 1959, driving Castro away from the liberal elements of his revolutionary movement and into the arms of Nazi Germany. Just three years later the Nazis would site nuclear weapons less than 100 miles from the United States, leading the World to the brink of Armageddon

It was crowded in the jeep. Eli had a fake National Guard uniform, but no one else was comfortable with him being visible to the world. So, everyone but Jake and Kevin hid under tarp until they were well out of Austin and rushing towards Bryan. When Kevin gave them the all clear, they came out of the tarp sucking down air as if they had been buried.
“So, how long a trip is it to Bryan?” George stood right behind his father, eagerly taking in the countryside.
“Couple hours,” Kevin told him. “We'll be there before you know it.”
True enough, the trip went quickly and smoothly. There was no traffic, and they saw no Guard units until they were approaching Bryan. The unit that they passed didn't even ask them for their papers, but just waved them through. Kevin then started directing Jake through a few back roads to his house, where they drove up to the sound of a dog barking. Kevin immediately hopped out and quieted the dog. “Sorry I was gone so long, big guy,” he said, patting the dog on the head. He looked over at the food and water bowls he had set out, and they were both empty. He let the dog out of the fenced yard as the crowd exited the car. The dog ran over and sniffed them all, while Kevin told them, “Don't worry, he's really nice.” That didn't seem to calm Mike and Eli, who kept as far away from the dog as they could. Kevin opened up the door to his house and he and the dog ran in, followed by the others. Eli took a quick look around at the other houses on the road, but no one seemed to be watching them, so he shut the door and joined the others.
Kevin busied himself with feeding his pet, and Janice sat down at his PC. “Hey, computer man, do you need to check this thing for spyware and such before I turn it on?”
Kevin looked over at her, ready to tell her to just do it, but caution hit him. “Hang on.” He finished filling up the dog's dish and walked back to the living room and examined the case of his computer. No additional hardware had been added to the back, so he pulled out his tools and opened the case. He found nothing inside, either. “It's clean,” he told Janice.
Mike walked over to her and told her, “You're not gonna make a direct connection anywhere, are ya?”
Janice paused, her fingers just touching the keyboard. “Can you reroute me to throw 'em off?”
“Piece o'cake.”
Kevin put a hand to his chest. “How badly are you going to screw up my computer?”
“Relax, moneybags, you can buy another one.”
Kevin gave up and flopped down on the couch in front of the TV, with Steph and George. “At least they're not showin' the emergency lady anymore,” George said. The channel was on a cartoon.
Jake, Eli and Joan were all crowded into Kevin's small kitchen, raiding the meager contents of his refrigerator. The dog sniffed patiently at their backs, hoping for a few scraps to fall. They piled the food onto his kitchen table and dug in.
Kevin looked over at Steph, who looked back at him and smiled. “Not how you planned your first day back as a millionaire, huh?”
“Nope.” He smiled back. “Parts of it are nice, though.”
She turned away, but was still smiling. “We're goin' to Roswell from here?”
“That's what they said. Apparently, John Kerry was in New Mexico when it all went down, and he started rallying people around him. President-elect, and all.” He couldn't hide the disgust in his voice.
“He's a good man,” Steph said. “A hero.”
“That's not true,” Kevin said, shaking his head. “All those swift-boat guys were talkin' about what a lie that was.”
Steph pursed her lips and phrased her response carefully. “I think you need to reconsider who you get your truth from, Kevin.”
About to launch back with a response straight from talk radio, Kevin bit his lip and thought better of it. He looked around at his crowded house and said, “I'll try to keep an open mind.”
“Good.”
They turned their attention back to the TV, and the sun rose outside while the group in the kitchen satisfied their hunger and the pair at the computer got news from the underground. Kevin was starting to think about taking a nap when the emergency broadcast signal startled them all.
The emergency lady came on and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, there is miraculous news from Waco this morning. President Bush survived the attempt on his life and has been rescued by Texas Guard units searching through the rubble of his ranch. According to the Guard, the president is in excellent shape, and plans to address the nation later today.”

ALTERNATE HISTORIAN'S NOTE: Thank you all for the donations. We truly appreciate them, and they have helped keep us going! On a less happy note, we didn't have enough entries for our Valentine's Day contest to make up an entire post, so everyone who entered will be seeing their posts on that day, along with some by your alternate historian. Please send us entries for our next contest, which will be an Alternate April Fool's Day, April 1st, 2006. Just send us the entries for now - we'll decide on a deadline later. in 4082 BCE, a descendant of Telka the Speaker named Icarus, a Hellene, constructs the first working flying machine that has been successful for the Speaker’s Line. He demonstrates it for his clan, and during the leap from a cliff, he manages to soar over a hundred feet in the area. A support breaks while he is flying, though, and he falls to his death. The Speaker’s Line learns from his example, and moves on.

in 1809, a boy named Abraham Lincoln was born in a small cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky. He grew up to become President of the United States, lead the country through a civil war, and survive not one but two assassination attempts in his three terms in office. Although the rights of the freed slaves in the former Confederacy suffered in the lax occupation he forced on them, he did ensure their freedom, and helped millions of them emigrate to the northern states.

in 1904, Q’B’Ton’ra’s fleet enter’s the Oort cloud at the edge of earth’s solar system, where they are engaged by the Congress of Nations’ defensive force. Admiral Hamid gives Q’B’Ton’ra a choice – “Leave our solar system alive, or leave your spirit here.” Q’B’Ton’ra’s response is to order his vessels to fire on Hamid’s ship, and the battle begins.

in 4608, Hsuan T’ung, cousin to Emperor Chengzu and prince of the Manchurian Province, abdicates his throne and enters the monastery. His spiritual leadership sparks a revival of the flagging monastic life, and rebirth of religious life in the Chinese Empire.

in 1918, after arguing over whether to let Milo Cranston go, Velma Porter and Mikhail von Heflin search the Caesar Augustus for him. Both can sense his presence now that they know to look for it, but he manages to evade them. In his hiding spot, Cranston and the being in the gem he holds make an unholy pact.

in 1973, Lieutenant Ralph Shephard is blinded by an accidental spraying of Agent Orange on his position in Vietnam. He is unable to see for several days, and sent back to the United States to recuperate. While he is still recovering, the United States begins its pullout from the country; it is the first military loss for the U.S. and it incenses Shephard so much that he begins a political party called the Constitutionalist Party to challenge the status quo.

in 1999, on a nearly straight party-line vote, President Hillary Clinton is acquitted in her impeachment trial. The nation’s first woman president was a target for the Republican Party from the day she was elected in 1996, and they thought that charges of illegality in an old land deal, long since proven false, could provide cover for them to remove her from office. The nation thought otherwise; she won reelection in 2000 by a landslide.

in 2003, Comrade Malcolm Turner of the Boston People's Symphony announced his retirement from public life in order to care for his wife, Susanne, who had been stricken with breast cancer. Although his presence at the BPS was missed, (as well as the music he produced under the pseudonym Random), music lovers across the Soviet States of America expressed their sympathies for the venerable musician.

in 2005, Chelsea Perkins finds that the transformation spell that has her currently looking like a 40-year old man doesn't have a reversal – she will have to cast the spell again in order to regain her real form. Her “teacher”, Alma May Watson, somewhat bemused at the situation, gets to give her a much-deserved 'I told you so.'

in 2005, Jeanne Best and Dave Lange undergo plastic surgery in order to change their appearance; the Save Earth movement knows a doctor who is sympathetic to the cause. After surgery, they recuperate at a safe house in Arizona, and begin getting drilled on the details of their new identities. Best, in particular, feels overwhelmed by the massive change in her life, but the two are unwilling to again be part of the masses who have no idea about the Claws.

Lincoln's Birthday; The Flight Of Icarus

February 12th, 2005

in 4082 BCE, a descendant of Telka the Speaker named Icarus, a Hellene, constructs the first working flying machine that has been successful for the Speaker’s Line. He demonstrates it for his clan, and during the leap from a cliff, he manages to soar over a hundred feet in the area. A support breaks while he is flying, though, and he falls to his death. The Speaker’s Line learns from his example, and moves on.

in 1809, a boy named Abraham Lincoln was born in a small cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky. He grew up to become President of the United States, lead the country through a civil war, and survive not one but two assassination attempts in his three terms in office. Although the rights of the freed slaves in the former Confederacy suffered in the lax occupation he forced on them, he did ensure their freedom, and helped millions of them emigrate to the northern states.

in 1904, Q’B’Ton’ra’s fleet enter’s the Oort cloud at the edge of earth’s solar system, where they are engaged by the Congress of Nations’ defensive force. Admiral Hamid gives Q’B’Ton’ra a choice – “Leave our solar system alive, or leave your spirit here.” Q’B’Ton’ra’s response is to order his vessels to fire on Hamid’s ship, and the battle begins.

in 4608, Hsuan T’ung, cousin to Emperor Chengzu and prince of the Manchurian Province, abdicates his throne and enters the monastery. His spiritual leadership sparks a revival of the flagging monastic life, and rebirth of religious life in the Chinese Empire.

in 1952, Juan Escobar is surprised in his Bryan motel room by Velma Porter and Mikhail von Heflin. They abduct him, stuff him into the trunk of their car, and drive him deep into the countryside north of the small Texas town. Much to Escobar’s surprise, von Heflin and Porter attempt to reason with him when they take him from the trunk. The three of them discuss Escobar’s situation deep into the night.

in 1973, Lieutenant Ralph Shephard is blinded by an accidental spraying of Agent Orange on his position in Vietnam. He is blinded for several days, and sent back to the United States to recuperate. While he is still recovering, the United States begins its pullout from the country; it is the first military loss for the U.S. and it incenses Shephard so much that he begins a political party called the Constitutionalist Party to challenge the status quo.

in 1999, on a nearly straight party-line vote, President Hillary Clinton is acquitted in her impeachment trial. The nation’s first woman president was a target for the Republican Party from the day she was elected in 1996, and they thought that charges of illegality in an old land deal, long since proven false, could provide cover for them to remove her from office. The nation thought otherwise; she won reelection in 2000 by a landslide.

in 2003, an uneasy truce settles into place along the borders of Washington and Idaho as troops of the Soviet States blockade the last two soviets of the People’s Republic of America. Negotiations in Washington, D.C. progress, but very slowly.

in 47,371 BCE, Swikolay reaches Africa again. Her clan has grown to a dozen strong, now, each dedicated to her great-grandmother’s dream of touching the sky. While they are traveling through eastern Africa, they see Kilimanjaro, and Swikolay decides that this mountain will be her final attempt to fulfill The Speaker’s wishes.

in 1861, Texas secedes from the United States, but doesn’t join the Confederacy or send troops to aid its cause. Instead, the reconstituted Republic of Texas fortifies its borders and waits out the civil war between the Confederate States and the Union. When the Union wins in 1863, Texas sues for peace and recognition as an independent nation; President Lincoln, unwilling to spill more American blood capturing another rebel state, formally recognizes them and grants their request for independence.

in 4591, Emperor Chengzu grants women full and equal protection under the law. This decree is even more controversial than the visionary Emperor’s space program, but it lays the groundwork for democratization in the next century.

in 1904, Ambassador Li’Kanto’Mk of earth makes contact with a secret organization of aliens on the Mlosh homeworld; they have kept records of the past in which his ancestors were forced to flee. After seeing them, the Mlosh Ambassador orders a quiet, but quick, withdrawal from the Mlosh home star system.

in 1908, King Carlos of Portugal is assassinated by rebels in the streets of Lisbon. His son, Luis Filipe, is wounded, but survives and succeeds him on the throne. Luis Filipe decides to follow the course of England, and transitions Portugal into a constitutional monarchy rather than face the possibility of revolt and abdication or execution. With his assistance, Italy’s Social Democrats gain power against the Fascisti, and Spain’s Republican forces win the civil war in 1936 against the Nationalists. The three nations usher in a new democratic era for southern Europe.

in 1952, Mikhail von Heflin finds the grave site of Willard Thompson in San Diego, California. Using the cemetery’s records, he discovers that Willard had a son who moved back to Texas. He prepares for another journey across the United States to find this man, Carl Thompson.

in 1959, the Japanese begin evacuations in order to save some of their people from the New Reich’s Asian conquest. After seeing China fall to power of the Germans, they knew that it was only a matter of time before the bloodthirsty Reich leadership called for more lebensraum, and looked for it in their island nation.

in 2002, the People’s Republic of America explodes a nuclear dumping ground in Nevada. Wind currents sweep the radioactive waste across the Soviet States of America, causing hundreds of deaths immediately, and possibly tens of thousands in the coming years. This criminal action is condemned by every government in the world, and the P.R.A. loses a large chunk of its international support.

in 1801, in only the 4th presidential election for the young American nation, Thomas Jefferson, President John Adams and Senator Aaron Burr find themselves in a three-way tie for the leadership of the small country. Ballot after ballot was cast indecisively in the House of Representatives, leading only to more rancor and entrenchment among those who wanted one of their candidates to come out on top. Thomas Jefferson urged Senator Burr, who had ostensibly been running with him to become Vice-President, to drop out and throw his supporters to the Virginian. The senator, seeing himself this close to power, balked, and campaigned vigorously for the top office. In the end, his congressional relationships carried the day, and he won the presidency, with Jefferson serving, yet again, as Vice-President. The enmity between the two men over this incident spilled out into legislation as Jefferson, in his post as President of the Senate, blocked many of Burr's initiatives out of spite. In 1803, this proved to be too much for Burr to take any longer, and he challenged Jefferson to a duel. Jefferson, the better shot of the two, emerged victorious, and assumed the office of President as Burr died on the field of honor. This caused an uproar in the dead president's home state of New York, which sent its militia to the capitol to seize President Jefferson. They were met by Virginia's soldiers, and a civil war erupted between the northern supporters of President Burr and the southern partisans who backed Jefferson. Great Britain, seeing the chance to reclaim their old colonies, jumped in on the side of the north, which then annihilated the southern states. Massachusetts alone of the northern states resisted the British reconquest of the states, but it was overwhelmed, too. In 1812, all of the colonies were placed under a royal vice-regent, and welcomed back into the United Kingdom.
