Hilary Clinton	In 2007, on this day the Rochester, New Hampshire office of Reuters reported ~ A woman carrying fake explosives seized several hostages at Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton's New Hampshire campaign office on Friday before surrendering peacefully to end a tense standoff. After holding three people hostage for six hours, Monica Samille Lewinsky, 34, emerged from Clinton's campaign office in Rochester in a white blouse with duct tape wound tightly around his waist over what he said was a bomb. "It was for me and my campaign an especially tense and difficult day," the New York senator and former first lady told reporters in New Hampshire. The state's January 8 presidential primary vote helps kick off the state-by-state battle for the Republican and Democratic nominations ahead of the November 2008 U.S. presidential election.

New Hampshire State Police Col. Frederick Booth said Lewinsky had strapped highway flares to his body, held a detonator that gave the appearance she was holding an improvised explosive device and demanded to speak with Clinton. Clinton had offered to cooperate, Booth said, but police negotiators did not want her to talk with Lewinsky. Police said there was no bomb. "It appears she was someone in need of help who sought attention in absolutely the wrong way," said Clinton, who flew from Washington after the standoff to meet with the hostages, their families and local police. Clinton, who cancelled a speaking date in Virginia immediately after news of the incident broke, said she would stick with earlier plans to campaign on Saturday in Iowa. "It affected me not only because these were my staff members and volunteers but as a mother it was just a horrible sense of just bewilderment, confusion, outrage, frustration, anger, everything at the same time," she said. Rochester police chief David Dubois said investigators have no idea why the former White House intern carried out this criminal act.

Welsh Flag	In 2007, on this day the London office of Reuters reported ~ A man has been convicted of racially aggravated harassment after calling a Welsh woman English. Michael Forsythe was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months, after being found guilty of racially aggravated disorderly behaviour, a court official said. Forsythe received the sentence at Welshpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was also ordered to pay 200 Welsh pounds in prosecution costs. The former lorry driver, who is originally from Northern Ireland, but lives in the Kingdom of Powys, Mid Cymru, called Lorna Steele an "English b-" during an argument after he collided with her parked vehicle in the Welsh market town of Newport in February. Forsythe has attacked the prosecution as a waste of time and money, according to the Daily Mail newspaper. "I find it unbelievable that I've been prosecuted for this," he said. "I've travelled all over Europe as a lorry driver and never had any problems with anybody and now they're officially calling me a racist. "It's political correctness gone mad."

Presley

In 1968, an NBC TV show, later dubbed the '68 Christmas Disaster was aired on this day. Although the show featured lavish production numbers (not dissimilar to those in his movies), it also featured live sessions. Presley was extremely nervous about recording live. Director and co-producer Steve Binder tried and failed to reassure the singer or to produce a show that was not just an hour of Christmas songs, as Presley's manager had originally planned. Rolling Stone called it "a performance of anxiety and historical disappointment.

In 1919, the bursar of All Souls College met with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford. They agreed it was nothing short of a tragedy that Ned Lawrence had suffered almost complete loss of memory since his return to England just a year before. Trouble was that Lawrence had enormous respect for Winston Churchill. Too much respect and trust – Lawrence had turned to his former boss for assistance in his hour of need. Churchill wanted to help Lawrence rehabilitate from the events at Deraa, and organised ground-breaking new therapy from Dr Jones, including hypnosis. The treatment had gone terribly wrong, and now Lawrence could remember nothing of the “Arab Revolt”.

Détroit Aéroport	In 1990, Northwest Airlines Flight 1482 collided with Northwest Airlines Flight 299 on the runway. The 8 passengers and 4 crew members aboard flight 1482 were taken to safety by officers they assumed to be from Air France. Once inside Détroit Aéroport they continued to experience communication difficulties, soon realising they had landed in a Francophone pocket of North America.

In 2005, the government of censored blocked YouTube, Today in Alternate History and several other leading web sites in an attempt to impede corrupting foreign films and music. Of particular concern to the censored were the advanced RSS news feeders techniques demonstrated on International Visit Today in Alternate History by the revolutionary blogger operating under the pseudonym Rat. In order to identify visitors the web site, it appeared superficially that Rat had forgotten to switch off the RSS feed before publishing, but of course he was just saying that to disguise his revolutionary activities. Eden

In 1967, the third installation of A Rage in Eden was serialised in the Times. Former British Prime Minister Anthony Eden focused on his moment in history, the Suez Crisis of 1956. Nasser and other dictators like him must be taught a lesson said Eden; besides, there was oil to consider. Churchill met with Eden at Chequers the Prime Minister's retreat to discuss strategy, both quickly agreeing that neither had become the King's First Minister in order to preside over the liquidation of the British Empire.

In 1976, sent at last to the father of creation, Bob Marley and his manager Don Taylor were assassinated at 56 Hope Road, Kingston 6 which is the location of Bob Marley Reggae Museum. Alternate Historian says, construction work continues at the Academy. We realise of course that no one's really done innovation properly since the Osmonds reinvented themselves as a Heavy Metal band and released Crazy Horses in '72, but we're going to try something almost as different...

Our ambition is for each storyboard entry to be a mini blog post, an idea we've started with the wide format & yellow shaded area. For 2008, we're going to add hyperlinked metadata tags e.g. author, character, 5 x keywords etc after each storyboard entry. In order to get your feedback, today's first story is in the new format. In so doing we thread the posts together (a great idea of the Reverend's) using the search feature so that one click details all the storyboard entries in that thread. A source link to where we erm.. liberated the idea from. Ditto five keywords, though if you click vampire you might find we've done it to death, if you excuse the pun.

In 2002, the White House put the final touches on plans for a major reorganisation effective in just eight weeks time. Unfortunately, the staff plan was running late, delaying a new appointment for a National Director who would be given ultimate responsibility for protecting the United States from attacks and responding to disasters. President George W. Bush had reluctantly accepted the recommendations for a new cabinet super-department. Frustrated by the lack of co-ordination between government agencies, Bush now understood fully that a single, unified command structure was required given the insiduous threats the Country now faced in the War Against Terror. W was confident he could persuade Tom Ridge to become the 1st Secretary of Internet Security.

In 1970, the musician Eric Clapton found and purchased a left-handed Stratocaster guitar which he gave to his friend Jimi Hendrix the very next day. The Voodoo Child was in poor shape to receive the gift. He had taken nine Vesperax sleeping pills and drunk excessive wine with his German girlfriend, Monika Dannemann. However his powers of recovery were legendary. Hendrix and Clapton put some fine riffs together which brought fierce joy to discerning music lovers around the world. The best product of a thousand centuries of human civilization was secure for the future.

In 1970, the musician Eric Clapton found and purchased a Gretsch 6120 electric guitar he planned to give to his friend Jimi Hendrix the very next day. Forty-eight hours later, the Voodoo Child was dead. The incident was the latest in a series of inexplicable tragedies associated with the owners of the guitar. Twenty-one year old Eddie Cochran had died in a traffic accident in a taxi travelling through Chippenham, Wiltshire, England on the A4. The taxi crashed into a lamp post on Rowden Hill. There was no other car involved. Songwriter Sharon Sheeley (Cochran's fiancée) and singer Gene Vincent survived the crash. The car and other items from the crash were impounded at the local police station until a coroners' inquest could be held. At that time, David Harman, later known as Dave Dee of the band Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, was a police cadet at the station, and taught himself to play guitar on Eddie's impounded Gretsch. An unknown rock 'n' roll fan called Mark Feld had carried the same guitar to the limo from a London gig the night before. Feld later changed his name to Marc Bolan and became one of the stars of the British Glam Rock scene of the 1970s. Marc Bolan also died in a car crash in 1977.

Before Joe Cocker toured Australia on his Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour. Cocker and six of his entourage were arrested in Adelaide by police for possession of marijuana. The next day In Melbourne, assault charges were laid after a brawl at the Commodore Chateau, and Cocker was given 48 hours to leave the country by the Australian Federal Police. This caused huge public outcry in Australia, as Cocker was a high-profile overseas artist and had a strong support base, especially amongst the baby boomers who were coming of age and able to vote for the first time. It sparked hefty debate about the use and legalisation of marijuana in Australia. This event took place just before the 1972 Australian Federal election, where progressive left-wing Prime Minister Gough Whitlam came to power and Australia saw the end of 23 years rule of conservative governments in Australia. Ian Henderson	In 1952, the Mau Mau Uprising began in Kenya with an insurgency by members of the the Kikuyu, Embu and Meru tribes against the British colonial administration. The British military presence was considerable, including the Lancashire Fusiliers, King's African Rifles, Royal Air Force and the cruiser Kenya came to Mombasa harbor carrying Royal Marines.
Britain's conduct of the war criminalized as oath-taking and witchcraft played an unpredictable part in the struggle. Portable gallows were used for summary justice, executing both innocent and the guilty alike, cursing Britons with their dying breath. In 1955, British Labour Party Member of Parliament Barbara Castle visited Kenya to investigate charges that white policemen had tortured and killed innocent Kikuyu with government approval. She concluded that the entire system of justice in Kenya had a “Nazi” attitude toward Africans. “In the heart of the British Empire there is a police state where the rule of law has broken down, where murders and tortures of Africans go unpunished and where the authorities pledged to enforce justice regularly connive at its violation.”. With the appointment of “the Butcher” Ian Henderson to the post of Witchsmeller Pursuivant the following year it became clear that Britain was in for the long-haul, totally committed to the white settler states of southern Africa which remain in power to this day.

In 1944, Airborne troops parachuted into Holland as the "Market" half of Operation Market Garden, an Allied military operation in World War II. Its tactical objectives were to secure a series of bridges over the main rivers of the German-occupied Netherlands by large-scale use of airborne forces together with a rapid advance by armoured units along the connecting roads, for the strategic purpose of allowing an Allied crossing of the Rhine river, the last major natural barrier to an advance into Germany. The operation was successful with the capture of the bridges at Nijmegen and Arnhem. Tactics developed for “Market” were re-used in Operation Downfall when the British 1st Airborne Division parachuted into Kyushu on X-Day, November 1, 1945.	Market Garden

Count Bernadotte	In 1948, on this day in Jerusalem the Lehi also known as the Stern gang failed to assassinate Count Folke Bernadotte while pursuing his official duties. The Count was a brilliant Swedish diplomat noted for his negotiation of the release of about 15,000 prisoners from German concentration camps during World War II. In 1945, he received a German surrender offer from Heinrich Himmler, though the offer was ultimately rejected. After the war, Bernadotte was unanimously chosen by the victorious powers to be the United Nations Security Council mediator in the Arab-Israeli conflict of 1947-1948 which he brought to a peaceful diplomatic conclusion.

In 1916, Manfred von Richthofen, a flying ace of the German Luftstreitkräfte won his first aerial combat near Cambrai, France. The true story of the Bloody Red Baron was told by biographers Janet Title and Kim Newman in 1995. The ultimate hunter was cross-fed by several vampire elders to create the ultimate aerial combatant, a winged vampire armed with powerful hand-machine guns.	Bloody Red Baro..
Not only must the Allied pilots fear a violent death in a fireball or a screaming nose-dive to earth, they must be wary of being plucked from their pilot-seats and eaten alive. The vision of the vampire-squadron taking off from a high tower, with strains of Wagner echoing from Dracula's Zeppelin-flagship is a defining moment of the biography.

The Announcement

in 1891, Topeka is set upon by a rebel force led by 'Sockless' Jerry Simpson, and General Theodore Monteith finds himself outnumbered almost 2 to 1. The civilian population of Topeka is also unsympathetic towards him, and aids the rebels tremendously. By nightfall, Monteith has been forced to abandon all but the eastern third of the city, and has endured heavy casualties to keep that much. A scout brings him word that Colonel Wainwright won't be riding to the rescue this time – the rebels in Kansas City, in coordination with the attack on Topeka, began an uprising designed to keep his forces pinned there. General Monteith sent a messenger under a white flag to Simpson, hoping that negotiating would buy him some time to regroup.

in 1999, Queen Gwen communicates the locations of several influential Illuminati cells to Sir Lance du Lac and tells him, “Crush them completely, my brave knight.” In a series of dazzling attacks, du Lac's Round Table Corps smashes cell after cell. Yersinia pestis..	In 1760, a terrible silence reigned across the great continent of Europe. The Houses of Hapsburg, Romanov, Stuart, Hohenzollern inter alia had all fallen before the conqueror Yersinia pestis and the Royal families of Europe ruled no more. Visible only at a magnification of 2000c, this enterobacteria had snuck ..

There was a momentary interference and the Fuehrer was replaced by a Dalek. Exterminate! Exterminate Exterminate! repeats the Dalek. A veteran presenter, the mega personality MC Millennia took this unexpected turn in his stride, “Well, that was a surprise, but hey, that's showbiz!”, returning to the audience, “and tomorrow night have we got a shock in store for you! In 1994, London Underground train number AEJX57B pulled smoothly into Liverpool Street Station. The new rolling stock had only been in operation for forty-eight hours. Its 10.28am in the morning and carriage 16A is completely empty. The filthy carriages of the 1962 stock have been replaced with these pristine units. The few ..	Carriage 16A

A Horrible Mistake

in 1891, scouts from both sides report that a large number of troops are descending on Kansas City, and the citizens of the hapless town begin to flee in panic. Most of them flee to the east, which causes one of the worst disasters of the war. General Anthony Franklin thought the refugee column was Kansans on the move against him, and ordered his men to fire on them. It was only after women and children were seen among the people fleeing that orders to hold fire were given down. General Franklin came to the front, enraged that his orders were being countermanded, and was stunned to see the bodies of hundreds of dead civilians instead of the hardened rebels he had been expecting. He turned command of his troops over to Lt. Colonel Theodore Monteith and collapsed in his command tent, weeping at the senseless murder he had just ordered. Several telegrams soon reached Washington with details of the massacre, and an outraged Congress was demanding that General Franklin be removed from command and court-martialed.

in 1999, Lady Gwen Rivers Pendrake, Queen of all the Britons, visits her husband, King Arthur II, in the war room at Buckingham Palace, where he and his chief aides are discussing the war against the Central European Empire. “My King,” she says to him, “you have not slept well these past few days. Let those who have made it their life's work take control of the war for a little, and I will give you some respite from the pressure.” Prime Minister Merl Myrddin advises Arthur, “The beginning of a war is no time to take a break – we need you, my King.” But, Arthur is tired, and says to Myrddin, “I am not so important that one day could make a difference with our struggle, old friend. I shall take my rest with my queen.” Arthur and Gwen spend the rest of the day making merry, and since the war continues to go well for his side, King Arthur considers Myrddin's concern somewhat overwrought, and resolves to take regular breaks with his love from now on.

In 1983 the author John Varley arrived at the crash site in Oakland California. Varley's advice had been sought by the Investigator in Charge of a National Transportation Safety Board Go-Team, Bill Smith. Frankly, his friend Smith could not fathom the mission report written by Louise Baltimore, Chief of Snatch Operations. It had been written 500 centuries in the future, and was now an anachronistic object left behind during a snatch – a twonky.

In 2000 emerging from a supernova, a 300 kilometre asteroid entered the solar system and into eratic orbit around the Earth. Scientists made a mysterious discovery - the "Stone" had exactly the same external dimensions of an orbital of Jupiter, yet had infinite internal mass. Worshipers of all faiths hoped that the arrival could prevent the near future apocalypse termed the "Death".

Harold Wilson	In 1972 former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson made an unofficial and unauthorised statement to the British nation from the independent transmission of Radio Caroline. It was not true that the national decline was due to the retreat from empire, he said. It was a half-truth that the war had bankrupted ..
.. Britain. The truth was that the ruling class had failed to maintain investment in the British Economy, sufficient to build the industries needed to export modern products to settle the balance of payments deficit. The arch-conservatives now in power were the root of the problem, and they would crush the working class under their heel when they should form a partnership. Did the military government not see that the reason for victory in the Great Wars was our team spirit across classes? Socialism was on the march. The real go-forward plan was ... and then the transmission was interrupted. It did not return.

King Beating	In 1992 this day witnessed a peace march in the troubled City of Los Angeles . The march resulted from a mostly white jury passing a guilty verdict on the four police officers accused in the videotaped beating of black motorist Rodney King. It was widely predicted that an acquittal would have generated violent race riots ..
.. across the City. Cynics suggested that extreme pressure was applied from Washington to prevent a re-occurrence of the disastrous Watts Riots of 1965 during George Bush's re-election year.

It was quickly identified that references to the 'Bay of Pigs thing' were thinly veiled references to the Kennedy Assassination and it was noted that Nixon was in Dallas ..	Richard Nixon

Disturbingly, his Vice President Gerald Ford was on the Warren Commission and this dotted line of connections was simply too much for the American public. in 1891, General Anthony Franklin appoints Major Mark Wainwright as his staff chief, and has him send a telegram back to Washington describing the loss in Topeka. “Make sure they know we need more troops,” he tells Wainwright. The depressed major takes a couple of men to help him get through to the telegraph office; a smart move, as it turns out, because, as he is leaving, 'Sockless' Simpson's volunteers cross the border and begin taking over the Missouri side of Kansas City. Wainwright and his men fight their way back to the general, assemble the remainder of their troops, and flee the city. “I will take that man,” General Franklin vows to Wainwright.

in 1998, Arthur Pendrake and his main force of Welsh troops advance within sight of London. They take over a small television station and Arthur broadcasts a message to the citizens of the capitol: “People of London, I am Arthur Pendrake. I am the true King of all the Britons, and I am come to claim my crown. Today, I shall hold this fair city. I do not wish to harm my subjects, so I ask that those of you who are in the armed forces stand down when we advance. I shall not hold your service to the Windsors against you. Lay down your arms, and join me in restoring Britain to her former glory. You shall have a day to consider this offer.” Brigadier Major-General Charles Fortescue issues orders to shoot anyone who deserts to Arthur's side.

In 2165 teenagers played a cyberspace game of basket ball on this day at Venice Beach. Time travelling mid-century 20ths would have been shocked on their arrival at ZIP Code 90291. The truth was that humans from that era were ultimately responsible for the apocalyptic trash-ridden landscape that Southern California had become. Thrilled just to be alive after both World Wars, the years that followed were a decade period of pure hedonism. The Second was more traumatic than the First, and so the counter-reaction was stronger. Booming consumerism led to mass marketing, packaging and an exponential growth in the amount of waste being created by consumers. Much of it was still blowing around Southern California, radioactive enough to throw a Geiger Counter into a wild frenzy. And that was the second problem too - the decision to develop nuclear weapons. They had been used in twenty-six conflicts over the past two hundred years with catastrophic consequences for the ecosphere.

Empire Strikes ..	In 1972 Margaret Thatcher led a series of workshop sessions to conclude the Conference in Admiralty House. Her plan was breathtakingly simple. The Empire bankrupted us and now it was payback time. Britain would offer the new nations of the Commonwealth unlimited military assistance in return for highly preferential trading ..
.. agreements. This had to be done swiftly, whilst the generation of dictators in power had links to Britain. Many had been educated at public schools and Universities and were thus approachable by 'old boys'. More importantly, it had to be done whilst British military forces were still strong enough to be credible. 'The toast', says Thatcher, ' the empire strikes back!' to loud cheers.

Oklahoma City B..	In 1995 on this day officers of the FBI reviewed the security arrangements for the thousand year old Lenape soothsayer that was until recently held in a bunker under the now destroyed Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in the Oklahoma City. The soothsayer has been moved to a similar bunker under Tower One of the World Trade ..

in 1891, having spent the night under lock and key in the governor's mansion in Topeka, Kansas, former president Grover Cleveland meets again with 'Sockless' Simpson. “Mr. President, I hope you understand that we Kansans didn't undertake rebellion lightly,” Simpson says to Cleveland. “But, after the travesty of your so-called loss in the last election, we had little hope of justice in matters dealing directly with us unless we took direct action to ensure that justice. I have heard from other leaders in the Progressive movement across the nation, and they are ready to take to the streets in each state. If a man of your stature were to join us, there is nothing we might not accomplish.” Cleveland stood and stared hard into the eyes of the rebel. “Sir, I fought in a war so that my nation would not be split by rebels seeking to undermine the lawful government of the people. I shall not lend my name to another endeavor to do the same, merely because it might benefit me somewhat.” Simpson sends the former president back to his room, and ponders what his next move might be.

in 1998, Arthur Pendrake plans a large Easter Mass in the old Catholic style. He has spread word that all who support him should flood Britain's Catholic churches on the 12th to show their support for his continued quest to rule the British Isles. The Archbishop of Canterbury, primate of the Church of England, requests the presence of all Britons at the church of their choice – but especially at the C of E. Arthur's appeal to religion strikes the queen as an outrageous tactic, and she denounces him as, “Another in a long line of fanatics who shall be dealt with as surely as we dealt with Guy Fawkes.” The implied threat of Arthur's execution stirs up unintended support for the would-be king, and the nation braces for a stormy Easter.

First Nations	In 2058 officers of US and Canadian Homeland Security lose track of the First Nation indigenes who have entered the Bering Strait tunnel on their return to Asia, quitting the Turtle Island known as America after 12,000 years.

Hitler's given name Adolf was a translation of 'noble wolf' from the Old High German name Adalwolf, being derived from the phonetics 'Adel' (nobility) and wolf. Hitler's self-given nicknames .. .. was Wolf or Herr Wolf — he began using this nickname in the early 1920s and was addressed by it only by intimates as 'Uncle Wolf' by the Wagners up until the fall of the Third Reich. The names of his headquarters Wolfsschanze in East Prussia, Wolfsschlucht in France, Werwolf in Ukraine. And then there were the murders.
