Alternate Historian's Note: We have a side-project that we are working on – a collection of several timelines with more-or-less complete stories inside them – The Fall, the Tolman timeline, the Mormon War and more – that will be up for sale on Lulu, as soon as we have it edited together. If you would be interested in this, or would like to suggest something for inclusion in the collection, please email me and let me know. And, speaking of side projects, Guest Historian Stephen Payne has one, Crimson Kiss, available for free on Lulu. Check it out after you enjoy his entry for today, an entry of our own, and the continuation of our NaNoWriMo novel.

in 2005, although the nation of Israel has been treated fairly as a sovereign nation in the New World Order, leaders influenced by the rapidly decreasing Orthodox Jewish and Fundamentalist Christian cults who have retreated to the tiny country declare war against all bordering nations and the European Union. EU President (and Anti-Christ) Morris Appleby reluctantly orders peacekeepers to the borders, with strict orders to contain hostilities. Although his troops are well-trained to maintain order in volatile situations, the fanatics in charge of Israel are not looking for anything other than war. P & A-C Appleby orders as many Israelis evacuated as wish to leave, but his forces are stymied by the hard-core fundamentalists, whose threats have cowed most of the general population into obedience.

After(cont.)
The police and National Guard arrived at the station moments after the president's speech. “All right,” a corporal said, walking in and waving his rifle around, “where's the fake?”
Jake put himself between the president and the rifle. “He's no fake. The ones you're gettin' your orders from are the fakes.”
The corporal was clearly of two minds about that. “I have my orders.”
“Right – from the president, telling you to stand down.” Jake took a step closer and added, “And from this sergeant, corporal. I'm tellin' you to lower your weapon right now.”
President Bush walked up to the stand-off and said, “Look, I don't mean to cut in here, fellas, but I think we're on a bit of a time-table.” The corporal stared at him in shock. “What's your name, soldier?”
“Marty, sir... Marty Johnson.”
Bush walked right up to him and shook his hand, ignoring the rifle. “Good to meet you, Marty. I understand you're just doing your job and everything, but we need to get goin'. Why don't you and your friends here give us an escort?”
After a moment's hesitation, the corporal saluted and said, “Yes, sir.”
Bush strode out, followed by Jake and Janice, then the soldiers and policemen who had walked in. He went straight to the car that they had taken from Crawford and climbed into the back. Janice got in the front seat, and Jake said, pointing at the Guardsmen, “All right, y'all follow us,” he pointed at the police, “and y'all just go on back to your jobs. You'll hear more from us later.” He sat behind the wheel and started up the engine. “That was pretty good, there, Mr. President.”
“Sometimes you just have to walk right through them,” he said, smirking. “Where to now, Jake?”
“We need to get to a computer at our friend's place,” Janice said, looking over at Jake. “We need to find out if Jake's kids and ex-wife are OK.”
Bush nodded. “I'm just along for the ride. Let's go.”
Jake pulled away from the television station and headed to the highway, followed by the two Guard trucks. Once on the highway, he drove to the exit that he remembered Kevin's house being down, and then followed the small road until he got to the house. “Where's the dog?”
Janice smacked her forehead. “That's right, your wife and kids took him.” She looked at the deserted place and frowned. “He said he was never going to see it again.”
“Let's try not to think about it.” He turned off the engine and got out. The trucks pulled in behind him and the corporal hopped out and walked up to him. “OK, corporal, I want you and your men to stand watch out here. You let me know if somebody drives up, got it?”
“Yes, sergeant,” the corporal said, saluting. He directed his men to take up positions outside the house.
Janice took the key, still sticky with Kevin's blood, out of the bag it had been placed in and opened the door. She walked straight over to Kevin's computer and turned it on.
Jake walked up behind her and said, “Don't you need to check it, first? Remember Bradley takin' off all that spy stuff from Steph's PC?”
“Would you know what it looked like?” Jake shook his head. She looked over at the president. “Hey, George, would you know what PC spying equipment would look like.” He raised an eyebrow and frowned at her. “Didn't think so.” She looked up into Jake's eyes. “They already know where we are. Secrecy just slows us down, now.”
