Get researching those alternate histories now, folks! The deadline is March 29th.

in 1834, the Friendly Society of Agricultural Laborers, a non-violent union formed merely to encourage English farm workers to hold out for a living wage, is charged with violating a law against naval mutiny, and 6 of its leaders are rounded up for deportation to an Australian penal colony. The other FSAL members, outraged at the absurdity of the charge, gather at the courthouse where the men are held and smash the building to pieces. The magistrate in charge of carrying out the order is beaten severely by the mob and then burned alive. When the military is called out to restore order, the majority of them switch sides and join the FSAL. Before the summer, all of the English southern coast is in rebellion, and overtures of assistance to the crown are made by France and Prussia. King William refuses foreign aid, declaring, “England shall not cry for aid merely because some rabble threaten a village or two.” By the fall, though, the FSAL sacks London, capturing King William and several of his cousins and putting them to death. A frightened Parliament strikes a deal with the FSAL – they will abolish the nobility, in exchange for the retention of power. They also agree to full elections the following year, with a regular election schedule to follow. George Loveless, leader of the FSAL, is voted Prime Minister by the cowed MPs, and the nervous former farmer begins the work of reorganizing one of the most powerful empires in Europe along more democratic lines. He battles rebellious former nobles and the machinations of royalists and foreign powers for 10 years as the leader of England and hands off a thriving, growing democracy to his successor. “I merely wanted the ability to make a living as a farmer,” he says as he exits public life. “But when the great powers of the world are aligned against you, you must either stand as a free man, or bow as a slave. I believe that the world is better for our choice to stand.”

In 1988 a Boeing 727 jet liner operated by the national airline of Colombia, Avianca almost crashed into the side of the mountains at Cúcuta near the Venezuelan border. The spiritual beings on the mountain took the corrective action required to prevent the death of of the 7 crew and 136 passengers aboard. The form of that ..

Oil Embargo Crisis
Oil Embargo Cri..
In 1974 the Oil crisis concluded when most OPEC nations ended a five-month oil embargo against the United States, Europe and Japan. The price of the settlement was massive western investment in the new State of Palestine which was emerging from the Ramadan War known to the defeated Jewish Nation as either Yom Kippur War or simply 'The Catastrophe'.

In 1913 King George I of Greece was assassinated in the recently liberated city of Thessaloniki. As the first monarch of the new Greek dynasty, his 50-year reign was characterized by territorial gain and political coming-of-age as Greece established her place in pre-war Europe. On 9 November 1912, Greek forces annexed the .. George I

.. second largest Greek city of Salonika and just a few days later, King George rode in triumph through the streets. Just as he did in Athens, the King went about Salonika without any meaningful protection force. While out on an afternoon walk near the White Tower, he was shot at close range in the back by Alexandros Schinas. Schinas was tortured in prison, confessed that he was a Turkish agent and six weeks later fell to his death from a police station window. Outraged, the Greek Government and her allies in the Balkan League (Serbia, Montenegro, and Bulgaria) declared war on Turkey initiating a series of diplomatic disasters and misadventures that would lead to the outbreak of First World War.

Captain Trips; This Is For Kansas

Digg this

The Announcement

Alternate Historian's Note: While I still feel lucid, I'll make a quick double post for the 15th and 16th. Sorry about the delay – I feel like I have Captain Trips...

June 15th, 2007

in 1891, Union troops from the fort at Concordia start firing on Topeka, softening it up for the thrust from Kansas City to take out the relatively few defenders left. Although assured by 'Sockless' Jerry Simpson that help is on the way, the citizens of Topeka are growing weary of being the battleground for his war. A number of them start plotting to assassinate the 'Socrates of the plains'.

in 1999, Sir Lance du Lac's Round Table Corps smashes through Cairo, the Central European Empire's former North African star possession, and the rest of Egypt quickly surrenders, throwing the Illuminati hiding within their borders to du Lac as sacrificial lambs. Queen Gwen goes on television and says to the world, “If the former masters of the Central European Empire will simply give themselves up, we shall no longer prosecute this war. Any deaths from this point on are meaningless, and caused only by the intransigence of the CEE's holdouts. Any nation that cooperates with us in giving up their former masters shall be considered an ally, and under our full protection.” This is the final nail in the coffin for the Illuminati, as those they seek shelter from turn them into the British in order to receive the queen's amnesty.

In 2008, following the Second Gulf War a terrorist backlash had caused America to become the most dangerous place on Earth. Captain von Tromp was informed that the Old Ones of Mars were grokking the fullness of his nation's aggression. Innocent Valentine Michael Smith explained that America's prospects looked bleak, in living memory the war-like inhabitants of the fifth planet had been destroyed; all that remained was the asteroid belt.

In 1980, following a security lapse that accidentally released a deadly man-made virus, the panic-stricken US military issued the desperate emergency orders Rome Falls. The superflu known as "Captain Trips" was ravaging the West Coast and all was lost. The Top Brass had lost control and decided to push the doomsday button.

In 1940, Neville Chamberlain departed South Africa on a transatlantic flight to Canada for medical attention. The former British Prime Minister was dying of cancer and General Smuts wasted no time in dispatching Chamberlain upon receipt of the Fuerher's second telegram. Neither of them are aware of the first telegram, sent .. Chamberlain

John Major
John Major
In 1994, at Admiralty House British Prime Minister John Major studied the photographs produced by the returned passengers of London Underground train number AEJX53B. In his youth Major had worked for a British Bank in Nigeria and had some limited first hand experience of real suffering. To be fair, out of a car window. However ..
.. these pictures from 2126 were truly shocking. Trouble was, advanced knowledge of the post-Jihad era could have a counter effect. Instead of making peace with the Islamic world to prevent such a scenario, the military-industrial complex might take preventative action. Invade the front-line of Islamic fundamentalism, in Iraq and Afghanistan for instance. Major would have to consider his next step very carefully.

In 1940, British Prime Minister Oswald Mosley and King Edward VIII are forced to accept the logic of the repulsion plan proposed by Aleister Crowley aka “The Beast”, “The Man We Would Most Like to Hang” and "The Wickedest Man In the World” inter alia. Minister of Defence Winston Churchill celebrated silently. He knew .. Winston Churchill

.. the British Heads of State and Government would give no credence whatsoever to Crowley himself, but they would fall for that old schmoozer, Ian Fleming. The Naval Intelligence Officer had convinced the pair to use Enochian as a code in order to plant evidence. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. It sounded strangely like Crowley's own work The Book of the Law which started “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law" That was very much Churchill's thinking at this most desperate of hours.

in 1891, George Nelson, a lifelong Topeka resident and former supporter of 'Sockless' Jerry Simpson, approaches the Kansan leader in the middle of siege preparations and shoots him twice in the face. “That's for Kansas,” Nelson shouts at Simpson as the leader writhes in agony on the ground. Although many people look menacingly towards Nelson as he walks away from Simpson's corpse, no one lays a finger on him. The town's leaders seize the opportunity to raise a white flag over the capitol building and ask the Union soldiers their terms for surrender.

in 1999, Prime Minister Kay Ector returns from his Greek “vacation” brimming with confidence in Queen Gwen's anti-Illuminati initiative, and quickly touches base with every country in the world that could be housing the once-powerful organization. He finds a host of nations ready and willing to give up those who once ruled them, and sends the list to Sir Lance du Lac, so that his Round Table Corps can make quick work of them. In the London hospital holding King Arthur II, meanwhile, a strange old man pays a visit to the fallen monarch. None of the staff remembers why they let him in, nor do they remember him when he is gone. But, the king dreams within his coma, and stirs ever so slightly.

In 2008, Captain von Tromp of the Champion was taught by Innocent Valentine Michael Smith how to grok. The process of taking in a full understanding is best translated from the Martian as to drink; symbolised by the water ritual. By becoming water brothers, Von Tromp and Smith gained a full understanding of each other. More importantly, they dispersed the aura of aggression that was troubling the Old Ones of Mars. And Van Tromp now understood that the threat posed to America by the Old Ones was very great indeed.

In 1980, carrying vials of the superflu known as "Captain Trips", US Agents travelled to dispersion points around the world. The desperate emergency orders Rome Falls were carried out with military precision. Operational efficiency was a marked improvement on the security lapse that had accidentally released the deadly man-made virus.

European Grapevine
European Grapev..
In 1760, by a twist of fate the healing powers of grapes were best understood outside of Europe. Vitis vinifera cultivation and wine-making in China began during the Han Dynasty in the second century BC with the importation of the species from Ta-Yuan. However, ..
.. wild vine "mountain grapes" like Vitis thunbergii were being used for wine making before that time. And where did the plague known as the Red Death originate? In China.

In 1815, on this day at Ligny in Belgium Napoleon Bonaparte defeated the Prussians under Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher. Aware that the Duke of Wellington's forces were but two days march away, the Little Corporal chose not to send forces in pursuit of the retreating Prussians.

In 1940, Nazi Deputy Rudolph Hess received a highly irregular intelligence feed most bizarrely not from Heinrich Himmler. Superficially it was a back-channel diplomatic communication from the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon inviting Hess to a clandestine meeting at Aleister Crowley's residence on Loch Ness. It also included .. Duke of Hamilton
Duke of Hamilto..
.. horoscopes suggesting a pro-German coup in Britain led by the Duke and “the Beast”. The urgency was thus; a brokered peace settlement before Rommel could launch the D-Day landings on the South Coast.

Division

In 1952, on this day Princess Elizabeth proclaimed herself Queen, Head of the Commonwealth and Defender of the Faith in a ceremony at Rideau Hall, the Governor's Residence in Ottawa.

The proclaimation was met with a cool response from London. Prime Minister Oswald Mosley had made common cause with continental fascists Mussolini of Italy, Franco of Spain and Hitler of Germany during his premiership, but where they were all gone by the end of the decade, Mosley's rule of Britain had only begun.

The death of King George VI was a potential catalist to perhaps end the dynastic crisis in the British monarchy.

Ironically the Queen's Uncle, King Edward VIII had been forced to abdicate having married an American divorcee, Wallace Simpson. He returned from the Governorship of the Bahamas as the titular Head of a Nazi Client State when the remainder of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha fled to the Americas during Operation Sealion in 1940. Of German origin themselves, the British Royal Family traced their routes to the House of Wettin in Saxony. This dynasty of German counts, dukes, prince-electors (Kurfürsten) and kings ruled the area of today's German state of Saxony for more than 800 years as well as holding at times the kingship of Poland. Agnates of the House of Wettin have, at various times, ascended the thrones of Great Britain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Poland, Saxony, and Belgium.

In 1952, Juan Escobar, a man who has made a small living studying the paranormal in Mexico and eastern Europe, hears of the destruction of a small diner in Bryan, Texas by a tall, dark German man. He has heard of this man before, the Baron von Todt, and immediately travels to Texas to find him.
Devils FootprintsIn 1855, the Devil's Footprints mysteriously appear in southern Devon with the contemporaneous sightings of Spring Heeled Jack, a mysterious figure known for his extraordinary jumps.

Jack was described by alleged victims as having a terrifying and frightful appearance, with diabolical physiognomy that included clawed hands and eyes that resembled red balls of fire. He was finally trapped in the East End of London where he was captured for the Whitechapel Murders of 1888 and later executed at the Tower of London.

In 1974, the temporary American space station Skylab returns to earth after 84 days in space. The crew included a stowaway, the alien intelligence known as the Avatar who quickly establishes a global tyranny.
.
In 9816 BCE, Egyptian taskmasters, looking for a way to keep their slaves both happy and nourished, concoct a beverage that is essentially liquid fermented bread, from grains, yeast and water. Slaves cannot stomach the bitter, foul drink, and the recipe is lost to time.
.
In 1692, Abigail Williams and Betty Paris uncover a coven of witches within the community of Salem, Massachusetts. For their great service to the crown, they are made Royal Witch-Hunters for the colony on reaching their majority. Through their diligence, hundreds of witches are driven from Massachusetts.
.
In 1914, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien began working on the Middle-earth stories. A good deal was written while Tolkien, then a British officer returned from France during World War I, was laid up in a military hospital and at home with trench fever. Truth be told, Tolkien's imagination was over-stimulated by the horror of the Somme. In escapist fantasy writing, Tolkien's inner hero struggled to restore his own dissipated life force.

And when the tidings came of the fall of Gondolin, .. Morgoth [Tolkien's fear] though that his triumph was fulfilled, recking little of [Tolkien].. and he called upon them to forgive them, and rescue them back from the overmastering might of Morgoth and win back the Silmarils [Life Force]. ~ Of Tuor and the Fall of Gondolin

In 1725, Pyotr the Great, last Tsar of Russia, died in captivity in Istanbul. He had been captured during a war with the Ottoman Empire in 1710, and held in disgrace ever since. His death finally quieted loyalists who had been attempting to overthrow the Ottomans and restore him to his throne.
.
In 1777, Major Timothy Bigelow of the American rebels is recaptured, just 6 months after being released from a prisoner-of-war camp. The Massachusetts blacksmith is put to the death by the British as an example to other colonials. Many men from Bigelow's regiment joined the growing exodus to Canada, to join the nascent independence movement there.
.
In 1802, the banjo clock is patented by Simon Willard of Massachusetts. This phenomenally successful product led to other musical instruments being made into clocks; antique guitar clocks from this era often sell for thousands of dollars at auctions.
.
In 12-13-12-5-8, Emperor Calzotz allows the conquered northern nations to use their land in their traditional ways, instead of assigning nobles to rule over them. This act of mercy pays off for Ouezteca in reduced rebellions, and is continued by his successors.
.
In 1998, on this day John Enoch Powell died in Canada and entered Valhalla. Powell's apocalyptic warnings of Rivers of Blood had proven all too prescient. The Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher had sent an elite force of Royal Marines and Paratroopers to cauterize the Channel Tunnel. Before the bomb could be detonated at Sangatte, the British position was overrun by vampires. Held at bay since 1917, the Red Menace finally swept into Britain. Powell escaped to Canada where his advice and guidance was desperately needed by a terrified Canadian government.
.
Ariel SharonIn 1983, on this day Generals Ariel Sharon - better known as the terrorist Arik - and Rafael Eitan of the Zionist Liberation Army were sentenced to death.

The court found that Mr Sharon was indirectly but personally to blame for the massacres of more than 800 people in the Sabra and Shatila villages near Beirut in 1982. ZLA terrorists were in control of west Beirut when right-wing Christian militias entered the villages. The Lebanese Phalangist militia acted within the wider context of the Jewish-Christian consipiracy to strike the State of Palestine by destabilising the Northern border. The Phalange leader, Bashir Gemayel was still at liberty in the Lebanon.
Ariel Sharon - Grave Mistake
Terrorist Arik
The Court's report said Mr Sharon had made a 'grave mistake' by failing to order 'appropriate measures for preventing or reducing the danger of massacre of innocents'. It concluded that Sharon should have foreseen what the Phalange would do when they entered the villages. Mr Sharon's defence lawyer said that because he had no knowledge of what would happen when ZLA irregular troops allowed the militia into the camps, he could not be held to account.

The report also condemned Zionist General Rafael Eitan for breach of the Geneva convention in not taking steps to stop the massacre. It said he should have anticipated the danger and opposed the decision to send militia into the villages. Also criticised was ZLA President Menachim Begin, dismissing the argument that the Zionists could not be held directly accountable.
