Alternate Historian's Note: Well, I survived the first day at the new job, and my daughter let me sleep last night, so I feel much better today! On with the alternate history...

in 1891, Major Mark Wainwright, commander of the soldiers who had accompanied former President Cleveland to Topeka, breaks out of the camp where he and his men are being kept, and frees a dozen other soldiers, as well. Together, they sneak into the governor's mansion and attempt to spring Cleveland from his guarded room. The former president, though, wishes to stay in an attempt to negotiate with the rebel leader Simpson. “I cannot give up on peaceful solutions yet,” he tells Wainwright, “but save your men and get out of the state. Get back to Washington and tell them that I am confident that an answer to this situation can be found without further bloodshed.” The major reluctantly agrees, and he and his small group slip out of Topeka and head east. When 'Sockless' Simpson is informed of the escape, he harangues Cleveland for several minutes about honor, which the former president sits through patiently. When Simpson finally winds down, Cleveland says, “Sir, as much as you may question my honor, I am still here when I had the perfect opportunity for escape. My honor in this matter, therefore, has been put on display. Yours, on the other hand, is still a matter of debate. Now, you may continue to berate me, or we can begin working on a solution to all of our problems.”

in 1998, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom issues a call for all good subjects of the realm to attend their local Church of England on Easter morning. Arthur Pendrake's appeal is growing throughout Great Britain, and the queen is feeling the pressure of his popularity. Prime Minister Pembroke is also feeling threatened – Pendrake has begun speaking of a return to an absolute monarchy and abolition of Parliament. He deploys a couple of the agents that the Central European Empire has put at his disposal to destabilize Arthur's organization.

First Nations	In 2058 Russian Immigration and Customs officers are unable to find the First Nation indigenes who have entered the Bering Strait tunnel on their return to Asia, quitting the Turtle Island known as America after 12,000 years.

In 1629 Charles I of England dissolved Parliament, starting the Eleven Years Tyranny in which there was no parliament. During his reign and that of his son Charles II, there moments when democracy might have made a comeback, but it was not to be. The nascent British Empire was given an appropriate governance structure; effective ..	King Charles I

Washington Loca..	In 1867 Secretary of State William Seward and chairman of the Senate committee Charles Sumner published an article in the New York Herald in which they lambasted the United States Senate for blocking the Alaska Purchase. They argued that the nation's strategic interests favoured the treaty. Russia had been a valuable ally ..
.. during the Civil War, while Britain had been a nearly open enemy. It seemed wise to help Russia while discomfiting the British. Furthermore there was the matter of adjacent territory belonging to Britain (and now part of Canada). Nearly surrounded by the United States they were of little strategic value to Britain and might someday be purchased. In 1945 a future US President Harry S Truman would describe the proponents as being  both absolutely wrong and completely right .

In 1998 on this day the Belfast Agreement was signed, codifying the Downing Street Declaration of 1993. The Head of the Southern Department Tony Blair and Taoiseach Bertie Ahern agreed that the Irish would increase their participation in the cross-border governance of north and south England. King Charles' Reconciliation With The Huguenots

in 1572, King Charles IX of France rejects the counsel of his mother and instead issues a decree granting the Protestant Huguenot community of the country full rights of citizenship. This enrages many Catholic leaders, as well as the Pope in Rome, who had wanted France to crack down hard on the Protestants in their midst. Admiral Gaspard de Coligny, and influential Huguenot who was friendly wit the king, advised Charles to place a reign on Catherine, his mother, lest she instigate violence against the Huguenots herself. This was well-placed advice, because Catherine de Medici had been planning a massacre of Huguenot leaders. Shocked at the scope of her plan, King Charles placed Catherine under house arrest, and de Coligny became his chief advisor. With a Protestant by his side, Charles was able to forge a lasting peace and alliance with England, and the two nations together fended off attacks from the Catholic Church against their sovereignty. At one point during his reign, when the Pope threatened to excommunicate Charles, the king said, “Let the pope do as he will. I will convert to the Church of England.” This made the pope back off, and without the power of excommunication, the church's hold over France withered. The rest of Europe also saw a loosening of the church's grip as the Protestant movement gathered strength. Over the next century, even such Catholic stalwarts as Spain and Italy enjoyed a liberalization of religion in their nations, and a flowering of tolerance took hold of Christendom.

in 2017, the Pokor and the Eagle saw the great gas giant of Amandara in their viewscreens, and a cheer erupted from the crews. Captain Mawrao ordered the helm to take the ship to Amandara 14, then turned to Commander Patterson. “I guess this is goodbye for us, then. I will be very sad to see you go.” Commander Patterson smiled and placed a hand on one of Mawrao's three arms. “Mawrao, I can honestly say that you are my favorite alien. Before we part ways, what do you say we break out some of that fungus juice you guys drink and have a party?” Mawrao replied, “Now, you talking!” The captain gave all non-essential personnel leave and ordered them to “Party up with our earth friends one last time.” The crews of the two ships were decidedly the worse for the wear when they reached orbit around Amandara 14, and there were many tearful hugs before the Eagle launched out of the Pokor's cargo bay. As Commander Patterson piloted her own ship away from the gas giant, she looked at the huge world in the viewscreen and a tear ran down her face. “Najib, you figure that thing out,” she said, jerking a thumb back at the jump device, “because I want to retire here.” Kasem, who had just finished putting in the coordinates for earth, said, “Aye, aye, Commander.” Patterson ordered the crew to prepare for the jump, and the blinding white flash brought the Eagle home.

The Announcement

in 1999, the return of King Arthur II to the royal palace in London causes a great whirlwind of activity to erupt from the royal staff, most especially Queen Gwen's retinue. Her Majesty breaks into tears when her king comes before her in the throne room, and she rushes forward to kneel and kiss his hand. “Oh, my love, I thought never to see you awake again. It is God's great love of Britain, bringing you back to us once more with this miracle!” Arthur looks down at her and touches her cheek gently, lovingly. “You are a supremely gifted actress, my queen,” he whispers to her. “What a great loss for our stage that you didn't confine your talents to it.” For just a flash, he sees her eyes harden, but then the mask of the devoted wife and queen quickly covers her again. “My king, I know not of what you speak.” Arthur draws her to her feet and kisses her softly on the lips. “On many subjects, my dear, I am sure that is entirely true.” He embraces her and continues to whisper. “I loved you greatly, you know. If you had simply asked me for my kingdom, I would have given it to you. But now,...” He pulls away from her and Sir Lance du Lac steps forward to grab her by the arm. “Throw her into a cell, Lance. And place only your most trusted men to guard her.” Lance bows slightly and replies, “Yes, sire,” before dragging Queen Gwen from the throne room. Arthur wearily strides to his throne and sits down on it. Facing a room full of shocked courtesans listening to the queen's protests as she is led away, he says, “Now, who is going to brief me on what's been happening with the war?”

In 2009, falsely claiming to be a Postman, Gordon Krantz threatened the Mayor of the post-Doomwar village of Oakridge. Unless he was given admittance, Krantz would terminate the Oakridge's privilege of communication with the Restored United States of America. This bluff failed, and Krantz was forced to use his very last gambit.

Ray Charles came into this world as Ray Charles Robinson from Albany, GA, and he left it as Ray Charles Robinson with a dazzling list of professional accomplishments as well as a string of mistresses, two marriages, nine children (with five different women), twenty grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. On-stage performances were electrified by his all-female backing singers. It has been scurrilously alleged that To be a Raelette, you had to Let Ray, but none of the backing singers confirmed the rumour, preferring to honour this musical genius talent. In 1986, in London England tragedy struck a young family on the newly opened M25 motorway. An accelerating lorry overtook a family salon vehicle at great speed; a small child open the window by just a crack. The pressure of the head wind unsettled the driver, and the family vehicle was dragged into a collision with the lorry. Thirty years later the Change would repeat the catastrophe on a global scale. Electricity and pressurized gases were rendered unusable, as the basic mechanics of civilization ceased to operate. The opening of a small crack in the fabric of the space/time continuum had invited something catastrophic in from a parallel Lovercraftian universe. Just like the motorway tragedy, the world of men suffered a heavy consequence from a single cause at an arterial point.

Within two years Tsar Alexei Nikolaevich and his British Cousins would accept the surrender of Nazi Germany at Luneberg Heath, establishing Romanov hegemony across the continent of Europe.

During his parachute landing Hess had broken his ankle, but you did not have to be a qualified Doctor to see there was a great deal else wrong with the former Nazi Deputy. Hess' report of his visit to Aleister Crowley's residence at Loch Ness was somewhat incoherent. As was his introduction to the entity known as Aiwass who proceeded to drive the entire Nazi leadership through the gates of sanity and beyond.

Plantagenet Family War; London Front

September 3rd, 2005

in 1189, Richard Plantagenet, eldest living son of King Henry II, prepares to lay siege to London as his younger brother John is crowned King of England. John had been named heir to the throne by King Henry before his death, bypassing the more obvious choice of Richard, because of some familial dispute. The Plantagenet family wars raged until Richard’s death from an arrow wound in 1197.

in 1658, Protector of the English People, Oliver Cromwell, dies at the age of 59. In 1640, Cromwell led a bold experiment in rule by the people without the interference of the nobility, an 18-year period in which all British officials were directly elected by the citizenry. Cromwell had defeated King Charles I and was offered the crown, but refused it in favor of a more democratic form of government, saying, “I am neither heir nor executor to Charles Stuart.” Parliament restored a weakened monarchy after Cromwell’s passing, but Cromwellian England remained a shining standard for many people’s movements, such as the American Revolution and the Communist movements of the 19th century.

in 1752, the adoption of the Gregorian Calendar disrupts the space-time continuum and 10 days vanish for England. People riot in protest at the government’s reckless disregard for the sanctity of time.

in 1777, rebel General William Maxwell unveils the official flag of the so-called United States for the first and last time as his forces meet the British in battle at Cooch’s Bridge, Maryland. After they are utterly crushed, the British desecrate the Stars & Stripes, as it is known, and send the bloody and filthy flag to the Continental Congress saying, “This is what shall be done to all the rebels.” Many supporters of the rebellion quietly slipped away to the west after this battle, hoping to escape British vengeance.

in 1791, the great Mlosh poet Klekt’t’kel is born in Clonmacnois, Ireland. The writer of the epic poem, Cries to a lost star, Klekt’t’kel is widely considered the only author of the first Mlosh century who effectively communicated to the human community their profound sense of loss in being unable to return to their homeworld. Klekt’t’kel was awarded the inaugural Nobel Prize for literature in 1901, three years before her death.

in 1855, General William Harney, just before ordering the massacre of a Sioux village near Ash Hollow, Nebraska in revenge for the killing of soldiers in Wyoming, speaks with a young Sioux girl who had witnessed the Wyoming incident. She had followed his soldiers in a desperate attempt to prevent this retaliation; after speaking with her and learning that the Wyoming commander had goaded the Sioux into attacking, General Harney accepted the surrender of the village and began working for peace with the Sioux.

in 1911, Dynamic Pictures produces Sunset, a touching film about the end of the “cowboy” way of life in the western United States, starring Mary Pickford. This film gave birth to an entire new genre of storytelling that concentrated on the American West of the late 19th century, known as Horse Operas, or Westerns. Thomas Edison reportedly didn’t like the popularity of the genre, and discouraged the studio from making such films, until he saw Carla Lambert in Plainsgirl in 1916. After that, he let Dynamic’s executives make Westerns as much as they pleased.

in 1914, H.G. Wells organizes London Front, a wargaming convention in London, England. Expecting a few hundred people, Wells is overwhelmed as over 10,000 enthusiasts pour into the convention to play Little Wars and Little Warriors over the next 4 days. Much to Wells’ surprise, Little Warriors is by far the more popular of his 2 games, and this leads Wells to develop more games that are along the role-playing line.

in 1955, the band Bill Haley & The Comets, overcoming a fear of flying, booked their first tour outside the U.S. Ironically, the entire group was killed as the plane they were riding across the Atlantic was struck by lightning and crashed into the water. A young Pete Best, who’d had tickets to the show they had been scheduled to play in Liverpool, wrote a song about it in 1969, called Comet in the waves.

in 1959, the man who had appeared to Huan Yue on the water appears beside Li Huang-Sen’s bed and speaks with her. “I have him now,” the man says. “But I can release him if you will come with me.” Huan Yue agonizes over the offer, but refuses. “Very well. I shall return when you have had more time to realize he will not recover on his own.”

in 1969, anti-Reich terrorist Ho Chi Minh was executed by the New Reich’s Chinese Governor in a public hanging in Hanoi. The death of the highly popular Minh made the next three years a turbulent period for the Reich in Asia, as Vietnamese recruits joined with the remnants of the Greater Zionist Resistance to fight the Reich.

in 1996, in a high orbit over earth, Dr. Melvin Courtney and Professor Malcolm Thomas attempt to decipher the controls of the object they are flying in. They desperately work on translating the rest of the writing on the panels, hoping that enough will be written down to let them know how to return the object to Edwards Air Force base. The fact that the object’s last landing was a crash doesn’t hearten them.

in 2004, the ELS-3, a Lalandian-style vessel keeping watch at the edge of the solar system, detects an Elder power signature streaking past them at the speed of light in the direction of the earth. They send a signal back to the U.N. and the other 2 ELS ships patrolling with them. ELS-1, with a military crew, turns around and heads back to earth at its top speed.

King Charles Lives; Jackson, Gandhi Assassinated

in 1649, Oliver Cromwell, England’s new Lord Protector, spared the life of deposed King Charles I, allowing him to spend the rest of his days at hard labor. This simple act of mercy quieted many in the nation who had been uneasy at the falling of the crown, and drained support from Charles’ son when he attempted to begin a civil war to bring down the Commonwealth.

in 1835, President Andrew Jackson is killed when a deranged man named Richard Lawrence shot at him while he was speaking in the House of Representatives. Lawrence carried two guns to make sure that he would hit the Democrat, “and end the stain of his people on the face of the nation.” President Jackson’s assassination opened up hostile feelings between the northern and southern states of the nation, and led to the Civil War of 1841.

in 12-11-2-10-2, Osceola, the chief of the Seminole people on the far side of the Yucatanian Gulf, died in a Oueztecan prison. Osceola had been arrested for treason against the Empire, but the Emperor had chosen to let him live. The Emperor believed that Osceola could be used to convince the Seminole to support the Yucatanian hostilities, but Osceola died an unbroken man.

in 1889, Austria Baroness Maria Vestera was found shot to death in a hunting lodge near Vienna. Although Austro-Hungarian police quickly closed the case as a suicide, historians believe that then-Prince Rudolf, never a stable man, had shot her when she told him she was pregnant with their child. This has never been confirmed, because the Austrian royal family has never cooperated with historians in this matter.

in 1904, Ambassador Li’Kanto’Mk of earth asked to see the historical records that the Mlosh homeworld had of the period when his ancestors left. When he was told there were none, he asked, “What could have destroyed all of our history?” He was told by his hosts, “It is the time that we do not speak of.”

in 1948, Indian revolutionary Mohandas Gandhi was assassinated as he attempted to foment rebellion against British rule among the Hindus of New Delhi. Randall Stodderly, the British soldier who shot Gandhi, was arrested by Indian authorities, but when he was extradited to Great Britain, he was freed and feted as a hero.

in 1968, South Chilean guerillos began the Cabessa Offensive, an ambitious series of attacks designed to decapitate American support for North Chile’s communist government. Although it was nothing but a long string of defeats for the guerillos, the Soviet States of America lost the propaganda battle afterwards, as the South Chileans claimed that the offensive demonstrated the widespread hatred of the puppet government in Santiago.

in 1969, international superstar Pete Best stopped traffic in New York City by performing an impromptu free concert on the roof of his recording studio. “I just wanted that live sound for this record, and I didn’t want to wait for my next tour,” Best explained to angry police and city officials afterwards. “Sorry about all that.” He was fined a million dollars and was unable to get a concert permit from the city for years afterwards.

In 1895, George B. Selden was granted U.S. Patent #549160 for his invention, the Selden Road Engine. Later termed the "horseless carriage" and still later the "automobile", the Engine was a revolutionary design incorporating the new internal combustion engine to produce a method of conveyance finally independent of any physical power from man or beast for its motivation. Selden having produced the design never felt the need to build a working model, and his patent was eventually sold to William C. Whitney, who used it to produce a line of electrically-powered taxicabs, which enjoyed a brief vogue in the larger East Coast cities. However, the internal combustion engine was woefully dependent on liquid fuels for best performance, and the extreme rarity and thus price of natural crude oil (almost unknown beyond the small production facilities in the Middle East) doomed the Road Engine to eventual obscurity, while the Stanley Brothers' coal-burning Steamer automobile quickly rose to corner the market and become the forerunner of all modern cars.

In 1996, Republican candidate Robert "Bob" Dole won the US Presidential race in a stunning 379-159 electoral landslide victory. Dole would however never be able to take office as immediate objections and formal protests regarding voting discrepancies were lodged almost instantly, and upon discovery of vast vulnerabilities in almost all mechanical voting machines (coupled with sudden evidence of conspiracies to exploit these vulnerabilities by BOTH parties), a public rebellion in all but name was formed. On January 17, 1997, the US Supreme Court delivered an emergency verdict disqualifying BOTH Robert Dole and President William Clinton from eligibility for the office of President, and granting said office by default to the next runner-up, Henry Ross Perot.

In 1605,the Dark Age of Britain began as the Houses of Parliament were destroyed in a single massive explosion during the State Opening, at which King James I, Queen Anne, Prince Henry, and virtually every Member of Parliament was instantly slain. The person or persons behind the vicious act were never apprehended. Shortly thereafter a very small Catholic revolt was begun in the Midlands, suddenly giving the grieving populace a focus for their rage. Within three months, every open Catholic in Britain was either murdered or deported. 4-year old Charles Stuart suddenly found himself crowned King Charles I, and by the time of his adulthood had cultivated both a totalitarian belief in absolute monarchy and a vast hatred of Catholics and foreigners, who were the second suspect group behind the murder of his family. Under Charles' reign, Britain was transformed into a oppressed, xenophobic state, responsible for both the near-genocide of the Irish people and a pall of fear pressed upon its citizens and the other nations of Europe. Eventually, driven by the silent desperation of the cowed public, Oliver Cromwell came to power with the support of the reconstituted Parliament (which by then had been stripped of most of its power by the rampant Charles) and in a quick and decisive coup executed the King and the entire Royal Family. Cromwell was appointed Lord Protector in a move transforming Great Britain into a Republican Commonwealth, which it remains to this day.

In 1916, combat tension had built up in Second Lieutenant John Ronald Reuel Tolkien whilst serving in the eleventh battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers. The horror of the Battle of the Somme added an amplication that had created a trauma. Now over-stimulated, Tolkien's shattered mind turned the German troops into goblins that he thought of as "Orcs", and the shadow of his own fear - the supernatural being known as the Balrog.
Balrog	"The Balrog reached the Bridge [of Khazad-Dum]. Gandalf stood in the middle of the span, leaning on the staff in his left hand, but in his other hand Glamdring gleamed, cold and white. 'You cannot pass', Gandalf said. The orcs stood still and a dead silence fell. 'I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass.'"
Tolkien awoke in the military field hospital. He had been heavily sedated. For much of the night, he had been screaming and screaming. And shouting You cannot pass! You cannot pass

Ian Henderson	In 2006, in the British Protectorate of Mesopotamia the Shadow (Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majidida al-Tikriti) was sentenced to death by burning at the stake. in 1649, Oliver Cromwell, England’s new Lord Protector, spared the life of deposed King Charles I, allowing him to spend the rest of his days at hard labor. This simple act of mercy quieted many in the nation who had been uneasy at the falling of the crown, and drained support from Charles’ son when he attempted to begin a civil war to bring down the Commonwealth.

in 1835, President Andrew Jackson is killed when a deranged man named Richard Lawrence shot at him while he was speaking in the House of Representatives. Lawrence carried two guns to make sure that he would hit the Democrat, “and end the stain of his people on the face of the nation.” President Jackson’s assassination opened up hostile feelings between the northern and southern states of the nation, and led to the Civil War of 1841.

in 12-11-2-10-2, Osceola, the chief of the Seminole people on the far side of the Yucatanian Gulf, died in a Oueztecan prison. Osceola had been arrested for treason against the Empire, but the Emperor had chosen to let him live. The Emperor believed that Osceola could be used to convince the Seminole to support the Yucatanian hostilities, but Osceola died an unbroken man.

in 1889, Austria Baroness Maria Vetsera was found shot to death in a hunting lodge near Vienna. Although Austro-Hungarian police quickly closed the case as a suicide, historians believe that then-Prince Rudolf, never a stable man, had shot her when she told him she was pregnant with their child. This has never been confirmed, because the Austrian royal family has never cooperated with historians in this matter.

in 1904, Ambassador Li’Kanto’Mk of earth asked to see the historical records that the Mlosh homeworld had of the period when his ancestors left. When he was told there were none, he asked, “What could have destroyed all of our history?” He was told by his hosts, “It is the time that we do not speak of.”

in 1918, after Mikhail von Heflin withdraws a hefty sum to cover their expenses, he and his wife, Velma Porter, book passage on a ship to England. Milo Cranston, who has been following them since Bermuda, also books himself on the same ship.

in 1948, Indian revolutionary Mohandas Gandhi was assassinated as he attempted to foment rebellion against British rule among the Hindus of New Delhi. Randall Stodderly, the British soldier who shot Gandhi, was arrested by Indian authorities, but when he was extradited to Great Britain, he was freed and feted as a hero.

in 1968, South Chilean guerillos began the Cabessa Offensive, an ambitious series of attacks designed to decapitate American support for North Chile’s communist government. Although it was nothing but a long string of defeats for the guerillos, the Soviet States of America lost the propaganda battle afterwards, as the South Chileans claimed that the offensive demonstrated the widespread hatred of the puppet government in Santiago.

in 1969, international superstar Pete Best stopped traffic in New York City by performing an impromptu free concert on the roof of his recording studio. “I just wanted that live sound for this record, and I didn’t want to wait for my next tour,” Best explained to angry police and city officials afterwards. “Sorry about all that.” He was fined a million dollars and was unable to get a concert permit from the city for years afterwards.

in 2005, Jeanna Best and Dave Lange are taken to a Save Earth camp site in the Texas Hill Country, where they are deprogrammed from the brainwashing that they received when they heard the lecture from J. Burton Howell. The SE deprogrammers tell them that the information they have gained will help the movement immeasurably.

Much to the chagrin of the remaining lapsed Christians, few atrocities are committed by the jack-booted thugs of the New World Order, and their recruitment efforts hit the skids. Nation after nation falls under the sway of the apologetic Satanic overlord.

They saw a line of trucks on the highway they were heading towards and slowed down. Steph was thankful for the reprieve from all the bouncing. “I think they're pointed towards our side, so that would make them the New Mexicans,” Mike said. “I'm a little turned around, so I'm not a hundred percent sure.”
“Only one way to find out, I guess.” Steph pointed at the head of the line and said, “Let's go up to them – slow. We don't wanna get shot at.”
“Right.” He steered the SUV slowly towards the line of trucks, and saw them slow down. One of the trucks broke out of the line and veered off towards them. Mike rolled to a stop and let the truck approach them.
The truck was driven by an older serviceman, who pulled up in front of the SUV and pulled out a bullhorn. “Keep your hands where I can see them,” his voice pounded out at them. “Get out of the car slowly.”
All four of them complied, holding their hands out in front of them. When the soldier saw the children, he relaxed. “We have some vital information for you guys,” Mike shouted at him. “The guy they've got heading to Washington isn't the president, and we can prove it.”
The soldier's eyebrows raised. He hopped out of the truck and walked over to them, his hand on his pistol. He looked them over carefully, then said, “What kind of evidence?”
“Seismic data from Waco – no nuke went off anywhere near Crawford. And – what else was it, Steph?”
“Movie of the fake president at Crawford.”
“Right, photographic evidence, too. And, we kinda know some people who are trying to save the real president.” The soldier's eyes widened a little. “Yeah, I know what it sounds like, but we're the real deal. Can you take us to somebody?”
The soldier looked back at his convoy. “Right. You stay here for a minute.” He went back to his truck and talked into a radio for several minutes.
“Think he believed a thing I said?”
“Would you?”
Mike shrugged. “I would. But, I'm predisposed to that kind of thing.”
“Good point.” She looked at the soldier for a minute, then said, “Maybe he is, too. We could get lucky.” She hugged her children to her and said, “I wonder how they're doing in Crawford.”

Janice and Jake walked up to the side of the gurney and looked down at Kevin. The medical staff had already shut his eyes and cleaned him up considerably, but there was no color in his face and the clothes still on him were darkened by his blood. Jake swallowed through the lump in his throat and said, “He never even got to loan me any money.”
Janice laughed a little at the gallows humor, then put a hand on Kevin's shoulder. “We need to make sure somebody takes care of his dog.” Jake nodded. “Does he - did he have family?”
“I don't know.” Jake tried to put down the grief and think clearly. “We'll need to get his personal effects, get to his house in Bryan and we should be able to find out from there.” He looked at the curtain separating this little area from the rest of the ER, and saw President Bush standing there, looking grim. “We could also use a certain contact we just made to find everything out.”

Mahatma Gandhi	In 1948, an attempt by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu extremist to assasinate Indian pacifist and leader Mohandas Gandhi was frustrated by brahmacharya (control of the senses in thought, word and deed). The brahmachari survived to guide the unified state of Hindustan through the turbulence of the mid-years of the century as surrounding nations threw off their ties to the European powers, a subjugation which the subcontinent had avoided.

Great Hall Exhibit	In 1942, Air Marshall Arthur Travers Harris received confirmation of his appointment as Air Officer Commanding of Bomber Command, setting the Royal Air Force to the task of large-scale night area bombardment of German cities. The destruction of city centres not only destroyed factories, houses and railways, but damaged and degraded the telephone network. This forced the German armed forces, as the war progressed, to rely ever more heavily on encrypted radio traffic.

Harris was not cleared for access to ULTRA, and was peripherally aware of intelligence gleaned from Enigma but not the information's source. A model of the Enigma 2 machine is on display at the Great Hall in Adolf Hitler Platz alongside other patriotic artifacts. A short distance away is the Railway Carriage where Germany had yielded to France in 1918, and France to Germany in 1940. The first Panzer to enter Moscow. Behind thick leaded glass, the twisted radioactive remains of the Liberty Bell, excavated by expendable prisoners from the ruins of Philadelphia in 1970. Harris himself was executed for his war crimes at the Nuremberg Trials in 1946.

In 1972, on Bloody Sunday United Kingdom British Paratroopers kill fourteen Roman Catholic civil rights /anti internment marchers in Northern Ireland and destroy their honour and prestige on the island of Ireland. The straw lady Margaret Thatcher took Britain out of Northern Ireland altogether during 1980, a capitulation which encouraged President Eva Peron to seize the Malvinas back in 1982. These two defeats stained Thatcher's reputation as the worst Prime Minister of the Twentieth Century who took the 'Great' out of 'Great Britain'. In reality 'Thatcher the Sovereignty Snatcher' was the victim of irreversible historical processes caused by the End of Empire, and she was forced to accelerate Britain's integration into the European Union during her second term of office, finding a new and compelling future for the island state.

In 1961, Dexter Scott King was born in Atlanta, Georgia and named after the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, where his father was a pastor, he was seven years old when his father was killed. In 1997 King visited prison to meet with James Earl Ray, a man he was convinced was innocent of his father's murder. Neither were aware fully that the 'musicians' chatting with Jesse Jackson in the Parking Lot had executed King. Oh, and also lured Ray to Memphis with a phoney 'job' offer of a robbery to set him up as a patsy.

In the private sector, he has been the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Halliburton Company. In 2006, Cheney was accidently shot by Harry Whittington, a 78-year-old Texas attorney during a hunting trip on a southern Texas ranch. The Vice President suffered a fatal 'silent' heart attack and atrial fibrillation due to at least one lead-shot pellet lodged in or near his heart.
