Announcement From The Alternate Historian: Changes Coming For TIAH

Excuse me for interrupting Today In Alternate History, but this message is for everyone, including those of you who read TIAH from the Atom feed or on Livejournal.

First of all, my thanks for being a reader! When this was begun 6 months ago, we thought it might have a couple of people viewing it as a curiosity now and then, but here we are with over 40,000 visits and still going strong. I truly appreciate your patronage, and hope that you will continue reading this site for many years to come.

When I began this site, it was with the intention of using it to test out some ideas for other, for-profit projects. With your assistance, thanks to our poll, the first such project is now available for you to purchase. Beginning today, TIAH will be selling our novels in serial format - 1/3 of a book every month. At the end of the 3rd month, the serialized parts will be replaced with the complete novel for sale, and the next serialization will begin. By responding to our polls, you will determine which timelines produce novels and which remain curiosities only available here on TIAH. The price for the downloads will be very reasonable - each serialized part will be US$1.50, the complete download will be US$5.00, and the trade paperback version will be US$12.00.

Today In Alternate History itself will remain completely free - as always. If you never want to pay for a book, TIAH will still be here for you to read every day, just as it always has been. We hope that you enjoy the writing you find here enough to pay for more, but we're happy to have your readership, regardless.

If you don't want to buy a book, but want to throw the Academy some cash - we also have a Paypal donation button on the side. On the side, you will also find the button to purchase our work on Lulu, a wonderful site for aspiring publishers.

Also, you will see that we have plans to add a forum and links back. The new look of the page is liked by the vast majority of you, so we're not going to break it up too much. Any further additions will lead off to separate pages. We plan on having those operational by the second week in December. With a forum active, we should be able to announce things without breaking the flow of the page up.

In case you're wondering what prompted the change now, the Academy is expecting a little historian to join the staff in March, and so our Co-Historian will be taking a little leave from her work. The Academy can use all the help it can get, now.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for keeping this site a place I enjoy adding to every day.

Robbie Taylor

I'm confused. I sent my $1.50 to Lulu, and after checkout, all I got was the preview. Is that a third of the book, or is the full download not ready yet? Am I doing something wrong?

When you log into Lulu, there is a Library link - clink on that, and you should see your purchased download in there.

Thanks!

I don't think my last comment was clear enough - when you log in to Lulu, there is a tab on the page called My Lulu. Click on that, and then you will see the links (there is a small one under the tabs and a larger one on that main My Lulu page) that take you to your Library, where you will find your purchase.

Thanks again!

Congratulations, sir!

March is also my birth-month. Andrew is a wonderful name for a little blogger. Just a thought...

Thanks!

Andrew would be a good name, but I think my daughter might find it a little funny... :)

I only found TIAH a couple weeks ago, but it's an interesting read. I jumped on the first serial soon as I saw it this morning. Halfway through; would be farther if it wasn't for other things. You're keeping me from pressing work!
Heh. Ahem. Anyways, it'll be an eager wait for the next part.

Great to hear the site is doing so well - and of the arrival of an Alternate Historian-ette. Keep up the good work & I'll be reccommending this to as many people as I can.

That's what I like to hear! Thanks for reading, and thanks for passing the word on!

TIAH Editor says we'd like to move you off the blog, if you're browsing the archives - and most people are - more than half of them are already on the new site. We need to be sure the new web site accomodates your archive browsing needs because we don't want to lose any readers. Please supply any feedback or comments by email to the Editor and please note the blogger site is shutting on December 1st.
